PostSubject: Thinking about just giving up   Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:10 pm

I've done several less than stellar CDs. I want
to be able to release something awesome, and I feel that I have really
good songs this time around. I have a better sound and mix than I have
ever had. However, I cannot for the life of me get the guitar leads
done or find a vocalist that I need to go beyond the mediocre stuff
I've done in the past. I'm tired of asking people for help and then not
getting it. I'm tired of chasing this person or that and then just not
getting emails back. I'm just tired. Period.

At this point, I'm
ready just to wipe the hard drive on my Korg and sell the whole studio
on Ebay piece by piece. I honestly just don't care anymore.

I've done a tiny bit of recording and I can understand some of your frustration, but.... I think your being too hard on yourself.

Outside of having some very experienced studio help, and a full fledged band (that comes with hiring and firing several people until you find the right ones) I don't think you are going to find that "perfect sound/album" you are looking for (and even then you probably won't be completely satisfied).

Your making some great tunes, and you are pretty darn good at it.
But I say only keep making discs if it is a labor of love. Don't force yourself if your heart's not in it. You can always take some serious time off and come back to it later.

I'll be praying for you brother.

The time off is what is killing me. It's been months since anything happened. How much more time off does one need?

Well that is the curse of working with other artists. Spend your down time learning some cool blues scales or mabey some funky jazz bass stuff.

Or....since you love to read so much have you ever thought of channeling some of your creative energy into writing? (I started that a few years ago and dropped it for some dumb reason, I fully intend to pick it up again)

Truthfully, if I don't find some people by the end of the year, I'm done. I'm just not going to keep banging my head against the wall for nothing to materialize.

I really can imagine you are tired of asking people and you are hopeful and looking forward to get some good stuff back.
They promise to send you stuff back and they never do.
An then .... you wait and wait and get nothing back.

At the other site I don't think God made a mistake to give you the gift of writing such a very cool and bold lyrics and music.
Yes, I'm very serious this time.

Maybe you regret it very much when you sell your studio, because maybe God has plans for you, maybe not now, but later.
I think wait please to sell your complete studio before you regret.

I know satan is having fun when you quit, because no other people can listen to your music anymore.
Your music never can lift up people then.

Maybe you have to take a break and ask God what's confirm His will.
I've always enjoyed your CDs and I still listen to them.
They are very helpful in "Dark Days" and always make me feel better.

My advise would be to set the project aside for a week or two and don't make any quick decisions (ie: sell all your studio equipment) out of frustration. Then later down the road next month reconsider the project.

Sounds like you are getting the run around from some musicians/vocalists who said they are going to help but in the end refuse to answer e-mail. Perhaps there are other musicians you could reach out to for help on the project. I do not know who you have contacted but perhaps I could offer some suggestions (and please forgive me if I am out of line here):

Wayne Johnson of Under Command
Dale and Troy Thompson of Bride

Vocally and guitar wise they would be a good fit for what you are doing with Mission Of One.

That said, your new songs are really good so I would like to encourage you to be patient and stick with the project long term and see it through to completion. When I was in the development/design/writing stages for Angelic Warlord four or five years ago, I lost track of the number of times I "quit" out of frustration only to eventually pick the project up again. So patience is the key (it took over two and a half years from start to finish to get Angelic Warlord online- so, again, patience and perseverance is key here).

I agree with Andy, leave the project for a while before making any decision. Your new songs are really good and it would be great to have another Mission Of One album in my collection.

I may have some things lining up, but I will not get my hopes up too high. I've been here before.

If you go to the MySpace page, you can hear a new song called "Prodigal" It is the first song on the player, by the way. It was co-written by me and Tall Tyrion. The leads are done by Kevin Hasselquist (guitarist for Sardis), and the vocals are done by Metalfro that posts here. I still need to make some adjustments on his vocals to get them lined up properly, but you can tell where I'm going with this, anyway.

This is good- really, really good. I like Metalfro's vocals. He kind of reminds me a bit of Glenn Kaiser. But the song is solid and has strong hook.

"Prodigal" sounds vet gaaf and I definately hear Mad At The World influences in this song.
It's great Metalfro is the vocalist for this song.

It's great hearing Metalfro on vocals! Good song, albums with different vocalist are always a neat idea, as it gives more diversity. That was one of the strengths of the original Mastedon albums.

Well done Alldat

I'm hoping to use Metalfro on all the songs. I want to stay away from the multiple singers as that is what both LnJ and now Pastor Brad are doing with their releases. A single singer would make this really feel more like a complete band.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

I see what you mean, alldat. Yes, Mastedon didn't feel like an actual band because of the multiple vocalists, but I'd still like to hear you singing on one track, I loved your last album - your vocals worked great on that. Still, Metalfro is a great vocalist so it's all good.

I've been listening to your S/T album this morning (hopefully didn't wake the neighbours!!!)
