Immortal Soul (not plural--different band)

For fans of Iron Maiden........


I would like to introduce the band Immortal Soul to you. This is not to be confused with the Finnish Immortal Souls that have the death-doom sound. Immortal Soul is an American metal band that claims as it's musical influences Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, and Megadeth. (They also claim Tool and Galactic Cowboys, but I don't really hear those.) They released a new CD last year called "Lines In The Sand" that reminds me a lot of Iron Maiden. Musically, this is a very good production, and I love their lyrical content.

I don't know. I haven't been to their web site. I found the CD on CD Baby, and I can definitely tell what they are singing about just from the clips.

Ugh. No offense to those who may like them but those songs sound very second rate. I do hear that Galactic Cowboys groove thing in their music.

I've really been on the fence about this release. Not sure if I should shell out the dough or not. I have a bad feeling it would be one of those albums I might get bored with after repeated listens.

That was my first thought too Staybrite.
After listening to the songs I found out there are really very cools songs to listen.
I have to study a bit more on the lyrics.

I definitely prefer the real Immortal Souls myself. Not really bad though.

Production is clearly a weak spot here (on MySpace at least) but I'd play them.

I've got the disc now, and the production is weak. The mix is decent, but this definitely was not mastered. But, the songs are good, and the musicianship is more than adequate. With a better production, these guys could turn some heads.

Just goes to show what decent mastering will get you.

Hello everyone--Jon here (drummer, producer) for Immortal Soul. I just wanted to say thanks checking us out and discussing it here on the forum. Lines in the Sand was recorded in my home studio (a converted spare bedroom), so it doesn't exactly sound like a million-dollar recording, but that's probably because it's not a million-dollar recording! But we're still pleased with how it turned out and feel that it's an accurate representation of our sound. I like the idea of the "fan-financed" album--you can send your donation to...just kidding!

I'm in the process of building a new studio, and we've started writing some new material for the follow-up to Lines in the Sand which we'll probably start working on later this year. I hope you all will keep an eye (and an ear) out for us in the future.

I'm not too picky about production. These guys sound great!

I wasn't saying it was a bad production--just that there was some room for improvement. For an indie release, it's pretty cool.
