It seems he is using "universalism" in a broader sense than I have seen before. I have heard this called "emergant Christianity" as well. Some very interesting quotes in this article.

I see that quite a bit, living out here on the West Coast (very liberal area).

I think that is the part that bothers me the most. Be muslim, or jewish, or hindu if you want. But if your going to call yourself a Christian at least have the conviction to actually believe the "entire" bible.
