Just got through reading the Mission Of One review. Nice job! I was hoping for a higher percentage rating, but 80% is pretty dog gone good in my book!

Actually I think 80% is a pretty high review for an indie recorded project (at least from Andy). As a matter of fact it looks like more than half of the indie projects ranked below 80%

Thanks for pointing this out. I had no idea I was being this "tough" on independent bands- it is nothing intentional or anything. BTW, "Mission Of One" is a strong CD- that is why it generated a grade of 80% and stands above the previously referenced albums.

Well keep in mind that I didn't post the ones with 80% or better scores (and there was easily close to a dozen). After reading most of your reviews, it appears to me that production and good song writing are important factors in how you score albums. Very many indie releases don't have quality production, and many of them don't have fantastic writing either. But you have given less than stellar reviews to releases on labels that fall short as well. All that to say I don't really notice that you have been particulary "tougher" on indie albums, but maybe more you are juding them by the same standard as the label releases.
Besides you can't give everyone a high score or else you'll lose your cred.

That is correct in that I attempt to judge indie releases and label releases by the same standard. It is also true that production and songwriting factor in heavily to the final grade I give a project.

At the same time, I agree I would lose creditability if all my reviews were positive (you have to offer an occasional constructive comment).

It's cool when you can write reviews from CDs.
I can't write them so Andy I am glad I only have to read yours.

Now I wonder how you evaluate all those albums?
I think it's a bit personal too.
You like that band or you don't like that band.
You always know it so well how to describe the songs.
