Holy God, in Your righteousness, goodness
and love, You have called us into families. We thank You for the wisdom
of “leaving and cleaving” as we launch from our parents and soon find
ourselves launching our own children. We praise You for this rhythm of
life and for the blessings You bring through our families.

Today we bring Vice President Joe Biden
and Dr. Jill Biden and their adult children before You. We know, Lord,
how deeply we are impacted when there are problems or concerns in our
families—it can limit our effectiveness and hinder our progress. Please
guard and protect this extended family today, Lord, that they will
flourish under Your care and love. Guide the Vice President and Dr.
Biden as they, in turn, provide counsel and guidance to their adult
children, that You may be glorified and honored in their midst. I ask
this in Jesus’ name, amen.

Loving God, we praise You today that Your
Word repeatedly characterizes You as the One we can rely on for
protection. We have no need to fear, Lord, because You place us under
the safe covering of Your mighty wings each and every day in every
moment guarding our lives as precious to You, for we are the very apple
of Your eye. Thank you, O God, for that reality.

We now ask You to give this same
protection to Joe and Jill Biden and their entire family, particularly
their grandchildren. Heavenly Father, let them know the certainty of
Your peace, and allow them, Lord, to rest in the reality of Your
complete and unwavering protection. You alone, O Lord, can do this, and
we ask You to honor our prayer today, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Holy God, all honor and glory are due to
You this day! You are good in all Your ways toward us; You lift us or
bring us down in accord with Your desire and beneficent work in our
lives. We praise You for shaping our lives with Your loving discipline
and Your gracious call to humility. We acknowledge the wisdom of Your
ways, even when it is difficult.

Loving God, today I bring the President’s
daughters, Malia and Sasha before You. Lord, these two special little
girls have been nudged into a spotlight that would be daunting for
anyone. Bless and nurture them today and in the weeks to come, Father,
as they adjust to so much. Keep them disciplined and humble, that they
may keep a sound view of themselves. Help them to welcome the
discipline You and their parents bring into their lives, that they may
be shaped and fashioned to honor You in grace and humility, resulting
in wisdom. I ask this in Your Son’s beautiful name, amen.

Tender God, Your unending love for
children is clear from the Bible. The next generation is important to
You, as is their training and equipping to impact the lives of other
people, to Your glory. Thank you, O God, for caring so deeply for the
youth in our lives and around us, and for giving all adults the
responsibility to participate with You in the development of children
to become responsible, effective adults.

We ask You now, precious God, to endow
the staff and teachers at Sidwell Friends School with all they need to
properly instruct and discipline Malia and Sasha Obama. Use them to
adjust the desires and conduct of the Obama daughters so that they may
be trained in the “way they should go,” and Lord we ask that You would
draw these two girls to You in the process. We ask this in the name of
Christ, amen.

in a cold and brutal world.

We bring Malia and Sasha Obama before You
today, asking that You intersect their lives with Your presence and
love. Give them strong and godly friends and friendships that will lift
them up during the difficult moments of their lives. Encourage them
through these good and godly friends, Lord, and let them develop into
delightful young women who can serve Your purposes in their world. I

this day as we prepare to intercede for the First Family.

O God, just as Joshua declared his
family’s independence from the influence of idolatry and false gods,
dedicating his home to You we pray that President Obama and his family
will continually set themselves apart for service to You and our
nation, keeping You at the center of their family. Lord, enable them to
remain tied closely together, and let them be an example to other
families in this country and abroad. We make this request in the name

Healing God, we intercede this day for First Lady Michelle Obama, and ask You to bless her with a healthy body and soul. Just as the Apostle John prayed words of wellness to his friend Gaius, we declare a proclamation of strength and energy for Mrs. Obama, that she will be fit and well to be the wife, mother and representative of our nation that You’ve chosen her to be for this time. Holy God, thank you that You lead and instruct us with Your wisdom and good counsel so we do not lose our way. We praise You for this today. Thank You for not abandoning us but for giving us Your presence and Your holy word to guide us. You promise wisdom and help when we simply ask, and for this I praise and bless Your holy name, O Lord God!

O God I ask that You work in the lives of each member of President Obama’s cabinet as they serve our nation together and separately. Lord, I ask that the enormity of their responsibilities will drive them to their knees, seeking wisdom and help from You every day. Protect them from pride and self-absorption that they may be faithful to their calling and may serve America with faithfulness and godly wisdom from You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Precious God, how truly amazing is Your kindness to us! Because of Your love and favor upon us, we have the gift of eternal life through Christ, redemption from our sins, and access to Your riches of knowledge and insight to guide us each day. Thank you, Lord, for the incredible reality of Your grace in our lives.

Today, Lord, we pause to pray for White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Just as the Apostle Paul said his conscience testified that he had conducted himself before the people in Corinth with holiness and sincerity from God not according to worldly wisdom, but His grace perform the same work in Mr. Emanuel’s life as he serves President Obama. We ask that he will be drawn to You and will desire Your understanding in all his doings, in the name of Christ, amen

Your standards for justice are beyond our ability to grasp, but we rely on You, we look to You, O God for wisdom and justice. And we praise Your holy name as we do so, Lord.

Today we bring our nation’s Attorney General, Eric Holder before You, mighty God, asking that You stir his heart to seek You and Your wisdom as he works with his staff and determines direction for the Department of Justice. Justice is Your thing, O Lord. May Eric Holder acknowledge that and seek You and Your wisdom and help, that our nation may prosper and our citizens may live orderly, godly lives that are guided by Your standards and ways. Mighty Lord, we also ask today that you give our nation’s top ambassador to the world, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Your great wisdom as she works diligently to improve and increase our country’s standing with other world leaders. Enable her, Lord, in this challenging task to pursue Your instructions and guidance as she serves. Protect her as well, God, in all of her travels, in Your precious name we ask, amen.

We bring to You today Defense Secretary
Robert Gates, asking that You work in all the areas of his life—his
body, mind and spirit—bringing him to Yourself in mercy and love. Give
him godly wisdom and insight, Lord, as he leads our nation’s defense
efforts in the world. Help him as he helps our country, Lord, and may
he be encouraged and strengthened today, we pray. In Jesus’ holy name,

leaders, Lord, in one way or another…in our homes, in the workplace, at
our houses of worship. We give you honor, Lord, for entrusting us with
whatever leadership roles You have given, and ask that You would help
us to lead in Your knowledge and strength.

We ask the same today, O God, for General
Shinseki. In his work for the Department of Veterans Affairs, he like
David will be asked to impact the lives of many in distress or
difficulty through his leadership. We ask You to enable and empower
this man, Lord, so that he can make a positive difference in the lives
of the men and women who have served in this nation’s Armed Forces.

Lord God, we know that for our leaders to succeed they must be grounded and
secure in a source of truth that goes beyond themselves and beyond the
wisdom of men. Today, I ask that the members of the new
administration—from President Obama to all who serve under him—will
yearn for Your holy word regularly. Cause them to consult with You
daily, seeking wisdom and guidance from Your word, so they will

Omniscient Lord, we therefore intercede for General Jones and his work as
our country's National Security Advisor to President Obama. God, give him
and his team all the insight and intelligence they require to keep and
protect our nation from harm, according to Your will. Just as the threats
against our country seem as measureless as the seashore sand, greater still
is Your understanding. Impart it to General Jones, in Your name we ask,

Thank You for Your kindness to us this day, O Lord! We take refuge in
You, knowing that Your love for us is great.
We
humbly ask for Your strength and wisdom to guide our nation’s FEMA
Director as he prepares to lead this important agency that steps in
with arms of compassion and provision in the most dire circumstances.
Bless him as he serves, Lord, that he may be filled with passion to
serve the citizens of our nation who are impacted by powerful natural
disasters. May Your goodness be revealed in the efforts of FEMA, we
pray O Lord, amen.

Precious Lord, Scripture tells us that when the Israelites were faced with the great challenge of coming against the atrocities of the men of Gibeah, they did so in utter unity, as one man. They were committed to fight together for a just cause, an example to us today of the strength of unity.
Thank You, O God, for this reminder.

As we intercede for President Obama’s cabinet, we also know that political
partisanship can so easily undermine unity, sapping our nation’s
leaders of the collective strength. So Lord, we pray that You would
intervene mightily, and bring teamwork and togetherness to the men and
women appointed to serve our president. Enable them, Lord, to
accomplish great things for the betterment of our country as they unite
as one. In Your name, amen.
