Day 72

Quote :

For great insight and wisdom for National Security Advisor General James
Jones and members of his team as they advise President Obama on key issues

God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of
understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.
—I Kings 4:29

Lord, we praise You today that You are the only source of true knowledge and
discernment. Because You are the Creator of the Universe and hold the
present and the future in the secure grip of Your will, You know what is in
store for us and our nation. You know in advance what challenges or trials
lay ahead, and can prepare us for them as we trust in You.

Omniscient Lord, we therefore intercede for General Jones and his work as
our country's National Security Advisor to President Obama. God, give him
and his team all the insight and intelligence they require to keep and
protect our nation from harm, according to Your will. Just as the threats
against our country seem as measureless as the seashore sand, greater still
is Your understanding. Impart it to General Jones, in Your name we ask,
amen.

For help and wisdom from God for Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano as she works to keep America and Americans safe

May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels." For the sake of my
brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within you."
—Psalm 122:7-8

Loving God, You are the God of all strength, safety and security, and today we
praise You for Your constancy, power and love. You are our rock, our
strong tower, a refuge to whom we can come in times of great need and
in times of stability and ease. Because of the generous sacrifice of
Your Son, Jesus Christ, our eternal future is secure, for it is kept in
heaven for us! All thanks and praise to You for this great truth,
mighty Lord!

Today we bring before you our nation’s Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet
Napolitano, asking that you fill her with Your holy wisdom and insight
as she works to keep our nation safe from threats and dangers of every
kind. Help and guide her and all those who advise and serve with her,
Lord, as she works on behalf of our country. Let her turn to You and
seek Your guidance at every turn I ask in Jesus’ name, amen.

Quote :

For godly discipline and strength for Peter Orszag as he leads the Office of Management and Budget, that he and his team will work to eliminate the budget deficit

Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding. —Proverbs 23:23

Lord, we praise You that You have placed great value on the acquisition of
wisdom. More costly that rubies or gold, the knowledge and insight that
comes from knowing You, praying to You, and reading Your Word is
something we cannot buy, even if we were the wealthiest of people.
Thank You, O God, that You freely give us access to something as rich

Quote :

For President Obama’s
director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to have strength
and eager ambition while serving the American people in times of
crisis

They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support.

—II Samuel 22:19

Holy God, You are our safe and strong
shelter through every kind of storm. When we look to You we are kept
secure. How we praise You today for Your kind provision for us in
every situation—whether critical or calm—You always make a way for us.
Thank You for Your kindness to us this day, O Lord! We take refuge in
You, knowing that Your love for us is great.
We
humbly ask for Your strength and wisdom to guide our nation’s FEMA
Director as he prepares to lead this important agency that steps in
with arms of compassion and provision in the most dire circumstances.
Bless him as he serves, Lord, that he may be filled with passion to
serve the citizens of our nation who are impacted by powerful natural
disasters. May Your goodness be revealed in the efforts of FEMA, we
pray O Lord, amen.

Quote :
Note: As of publication of this prayer, President
Obama has nominated Craig Fugate to head FEMA; the Senate has not yet
confirmed his nomination.

Day 76

Quote :

For a spirit of collegiality and teamwork for members of the cabinet as they partner
together to do the best for the American people

So all the men of Israel got together and united as one man against the city.

—Judges 20:11

Precious Lord, Scripture tells us that when the Israelites were faced with the great challenge of coming against the atrocities of the men of Gibeah, they did so in utter unity, as one man. They were committed to fight together for a just cause, an example to us today of the strength of unity.
Thank You, O God, for this reminder.

As we intercede for President Obama’s cabinet, we also know that political
partisanship can so easily undermine unity, sapping our nation’s
leaders of the collective strength. So Lord, we pray that You would
intervene mightily, and bring teamwork and togetherness to the men and
women appointed to serve our president. Enable them, Lord, to
accomplish great things for the betterment of our country as they unite
as one. In Your name, amen.

Day 77

Quote :

For help and guidance from God for Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke as he concerns himself
with the well-being of our nation’s business community

Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.

—Proverbs 1:5

Awesome God, we come with words of praise
on our lips and songs of gratitude in our hearts today, thanking You
for the marvelous ways You gift Your people to serve You. You give
generously without reservation to Your children, and we praise You for
this today. So many skills and gifts You put in people, Lord! How You
glorify Yourself in this. We praise You for it.

This day we hold before You our nation’s Secretary of Commerce, Gary Locke,
as he has stepped up to serve the needs of our country’s business
community. We ask You to turn his heart to seek direction from You
every day, Lord, and as he seeks, we pray that You will provide him
with great wisdom and insight. Bless him and his family as they adjust
to this new position for him, and may they be drawn to You together
regularly. These things we ask in the beautiful name of Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Savior, amen.

Quote :

For God’s leading andhelp for Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geithner as he works to
strengthen and stimulate America’s financial condition.

But I have had God’s help to this very day, and so I stand here and testify to small and great alike.

—Acts 26:22

Heavenly Father, we are thankful today that You are a God who helps us. We praise You that You do not leave us alone to face life’s difficulties and challenges. We know that You are
with us, enabling us, strengthening us to do our very best, and we are
confident that You will endow us with Your help as we honor You with
our lives.

When the Apostle Paul spoke before King Agrippa, he was able to do so with
full confidence, because he knew the Lord had helped him – and would
continue to do so – every day he served Him. We intercede now for our
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, asking You to work in his life
causing him to call on You for help. May he desire and have Your
guidance as he deals with our nation’s dire financial condition. Let
Your will be done for our nation, Lord, in Christ’s name, amen.

Quote :

For courage and creativity for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan
as he works to improve housing and address concerns like foreclosures
and the lack of affordable housing

Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to
the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

—Jeremiah 29:7

Glorious God, You reign over all things from Your glorious throne in Heaven,
and we praise and exalt You today, for you have made us to do exactly that.
As You rule in Heaven, all creatures are drawn to You to exalt You with joy
and exuberance, and they praise You together as citizens of a heavenly city.
May You enjoy the praises of your people today, O God!

From earliest times, Lord, Your people have planned, created and inhabited
cities, sometimes with Your blessing; other times without it. Yet we
know that You love cities and those who live in them, and today, we ask
that You will guide and help our nation’s Secretary of Housing and
Urban Development, Shaun Donovan as he works to help those who live in
our nation’s cities. Bless him with great wisdom, we pray, and help him
to do the very best for America as he addresses the great concerns
housing foreclosures and other problems overseen by his department. I
ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.

For humility and wisdom for members of the cabinet as they work together to serve President
Obama and the highest needs of citizens

Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.

—Proverbs 22:4

God, we desire Your blessings this day in
our lives. Yet we also know that in order to receive, we must first
come before You with reverent and humble hearts, looking to You for
guidance, recognizing You for the omnipotent, sovereign Lord that You
are. We do that now, O God, praising You for being our loving God who
is always at work in our lives, drawing us ever closer to You.

As we turn our focus to our nation’s cabinet members, we ask that You
would help them, Lord, to have the humility and reverence necessary to
foster unity and togetherness of purpose as they serve the Obama
administration and our country. Let them place the needs of the people
ahead of their own, and let them accomplish much today and every day
for the betterment of our nation. In the name of Jesus we intercede,
amen.

For God’s help and insight for the Secretary of Health and Human Services in working to
improve healthcare and social services in our country

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your
soul is getting along well.

—III John 1:2

Great and beautiful God, it is only in
You that all things find “shalom”--the sense that all is just as it
should be. We praise and bless you today for being our ultimate source
of well-being and health, and we praise You for how we are fearfully

wise and intelligent design in the marvelous inner workings of the
human body. We praise and glorify You for this today, O Lord!

Today we bring before You our nation’s Secretary of Health and Human
Services, asking that You impress him or her with the sense of Your
authority and power, that they may serve Your purposes and highest
priorities as they step up to help citizens with their health needs.
Lord, bless this person with Your wisdom and grace, that You may be

For insight and innovation for Secretary of Energy Steven Chu as he works to steward America’s energy resources

He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.”

—Daniel 9:22

Lord, we praise You today for Your
persistent presence in our lives. Though we often don’t understand why,
it is Your desire, O God, to give us knowledge and discernment to help
us face our responsibilities and challenges. We are humbled that You
choose to impart to us Your wisdom, and ask that You would enable us to
hear and respond to Your voice and direction.

Just as You used Your angel to speak to and assist Daniel as a result of his
prayer to you, we ask that You would provide Your insight and ability
to Steven Chu, our Secretary of Energy, and help him to make decisions
that will ensure proper stewardship of our country’s energy resources.
Wise Lord, grant this man Your wisdom in such a way that He’ll know
with certainty that it came from You and You alone. We pray this on his
behalf, in the name of Christ, amen.

For humility and wisdom for EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson as she works to safeguard our
nation’s rich resources of air, water, soil and climate

The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

—Psalm 24:1

O marvelous and creative God, You show
Your glory and majesty through the created order in so many ways! We
praise and thank You for how You speak to us through the beauty of
creation, for You reveal Yourself, Your glory and the precision with
which You made all things. How great a blessing, how high the privilege

the tiniest blossom. You are beautiful and marvelous O God.

We pray today for Lisa Jackson, President Obama’s choice to serve as our
nation’s Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, and we
ask that she will remain in awe of You, humbled by the glory of Your
creation over which she has been called to be a steward. May she be
guided daily by Your kind and gracious wisdom, Lord, and help her as

For wise judgment and guidance for Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as he works to provide
the best quality education for our nation’s students

Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.

—Proverbs 9:9

Heavenly Father, You place incredible
emphasis in Scripture on the acquisition of knowledge. You designed us,
Lord, to desire and seek information. O Lord, may we want information
that will help us to be wise – and then wiser still – rather than
details that would pull us away from knowledge of You. Help us, O God,
to be teachable and to aspire only to those things that You want for
us.

We also intercede today for the person You’ve positioned to work on behalf
of our nation’s educational system. We pray that Secretary of Education
Arne Duncan will be given Your insight and direction on how to best
utilize the government’s resources to teach and instruct its young
people to become responsible, learned adults. Make Yourself known in
his life we ask, in Your name, amen.

For godly guidance for Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar as he seeks to manage our national
parks, national forests and open space

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

—Genesis 1:31

O glorious God, Creator of the heavens
and the earth, the vast expanse of Creation boggles our minds as we
seek to comprehend Your glory and greatness. You stretched our Your
hand and called into being all that we can see and much that we cannot
see. In this, You showed Your love for us by providing beauty, open
space and the heavens to bring us delight and joy. We thank you for
this today, O Lord.

With this joy in mind, we give thanks for our nation’s great open spaces,
set aside through the national parks, national forests and other
preserves that safeguard the glory of Your creation. We pray today for
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar as he steps up to this huge
responsibility, asking that You guide him with Your gracious wisdom and
insight, helping him to serve in accord with Your will. Bless him
today, O Lord we pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.

For Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis to exhibit wise and effective leadership as she seeks to do
the best for all America’s working persons

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men.

—Ephesians 6:7

Gracious God, we thank You today that one
of the most significant ways we can make You real in others’ lives is
by serving them. Your Word even provides insight on the attitude we
should have when we perform acts of service, for it calls us to think
of our work for others as though we are doing it for You. This
wonderful revelation gives us the right perspective in all we do. Thank
you, Lord, for that.

We intercede today for one of the servants you’ve appointed in our federal
government, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. God, help her serve
effectively and with a godly attitude, and enable her and her team to
come up with solutions to improve the lives and working conditions for
all Americans. Give her Your wisdom and empower her to lead, we ask in

And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the

life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

—Genesis 2:9

Holy God, what bounty You provide for

For each member of the Obama administration to remain strong in his or her faith, seeking a vibrant relationship with God

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

—Psalm 51:10

Lord, we praise You for the cleansing and
forgiveness you promise us when we come to You and confess. As David’s
cry in the wake of his sin with Bathsheba brings him before You, may we
also fervently desire Your purity in our lives. Revive within us a

may please and honor You. We’re grateful for Your forgiveness and
compassion, O God.

Heavenly Father, place this same desire for You in the spirit of every man and
woman serving in the Obama administration, from the President himself
to the White House interns. If they know You as Savior, Jesus, give
them more hunger for You. If they do not know You as Lord, work in
their lives so that they may seek Your love and forgiveness. Let Your

Loving God, we praise You today for the
great and glorious gifts You give to us as Your people. We rejoice in
the blessings of living in America, for in spite of our nation’s flaws,

Almighty God, we honor You today for how
You have made provision for each of us in the Body of Christ to live
and work together in unity and to grow together in maturity. This

Pray continually.

—I Thessalonians 5:17

Gracious and loving God, today we praise
You for the kind ways You reach to us, initiating and inviting our
communication with You through prayer. Thank You holy God for fatherly
love that relishes our prayers and longs to answer them even before

For President Obama and members of his administration to steadfastly avoid ungodly counsel,
keeping their hearts stayed on God’s wisdom and Word.

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or
sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.

—Psalm 1:1-2

Almighty God, in Your wisdom, You blessed
us with free will – the independence to choose right from wrong.
Because of this, Lord, we have a great responsibility to position
ourselves to make correct choices by seeking You in prayer, studying
and applying Your Word, and spending time with You in worship. Thank
you for placing us in a situation, every day, where we need to pursue

God, we now ask You to work in the lives of our President and every member
of his administration causing them to earnestly pursue You. Enable
them, Lord, to shun advice and dictates that would lead them astray,
and inspire them instead to desire Your Word and Your ways, and may
that impact how they govern and serve our nation. Make Yourself
personally real and relevant to President Obama and his team, in the

Day 93

Quote :

For President Obama and members of his team to desire not wealth, riches nor honor but to long to be a wise and godly leaders

Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?

—II Chronicles 1:10

O God You reign in beauty and splendor so
magnificent, we cannot begin to comprehend it. In our finite human
weakness, we still strive to honor and worship You because You alone
are worthy of our praise today and every day, O Lord. All wisdom and
knowledge are found in You, O God, and You promise to give us wisdom
when we simply ask. Thank You for Your kindness to us in this way, holy
God!

Today, I bring before You President Obama, Vice President Biden and all who
serve alongside them and in the administration, asking that You give
them an eternal perspective on their season of leadership, that they
would realize that power and riches—even success--mean nothing if it
does not have its source in You. Help our president and those serving
with him to acknowledge in their hearts that they need You and Your
wisdom every moment of every day, we ask. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 94

Quote :

For the nation to be faithful in prayer for the President and his team

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and
requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for
all the saints.

—Ephesians 6:18

Great God, even as people of prayer, it
is easy to take for granted the incredible privilege You’ve given us to
speak to You, and hear from You, in prayer. It is an opportunity for
the profane to commune with the divine, and for You to provide insight,
expertise and inspiration for us to rise above the limits of our
humanity and be used of You to work in the lives of others – and in the
life of our nation. We are grateful and overwhelmed by this honor
You’ve given us.

Lord, please help us to remember this and respond by being faithful in our
prayers for President Obama and all those who serve with him. Weed out
our perceptions, opinions and biases and allow us, God, to intercede
with pure hearts and godly knowledge for the president and our country.
Operate in us and through us, and let us “always keep on praying” as
Scripture exhorts us, in Your mighty name we pray, amen.

Day 95

Quote :
For President Obama to seek his strength from God Himself and not from other sources.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
—Ephesians 6:10

Mighty and righteous God, in You is found all strength and all power. So great are You that You called all Creation into being with the simple use of a word—You spoke and all things were made! We praise and bless You today for Your power, Your might and for Your sovereignty that reigns over all persons in all places at all times!

O Father God, as we praise You today, we also lift into your attention and care President Barack Obama, asking that You move with the rhythms of Your goodness and grace in his life causing him to seek his strength in You. A man like him could find strength in many sources, O Lord, but it is the desire of our hearts that he recognize that any strength other than Yours will ultimately be inadequate for the monumental tasks he faces as President. Draw him to Yourself with irresistible offers of Your enduring strength we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 96

Quote :
For President Obama and the members of his administration to live lives worthy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. —Philippians 1:27

Lord Jesus, we worship You today. We glorify You for who You are in our lives – our loving God, good shepherd, source of living water, precious Savior. Thank You for providing everything we need to live a life pleasing and honoring to You, so that we may proclaim You to others.

We also ask, O God, that You would help President Obama and those serving our country with him to, as Paul exhorts, “conduct themselves” in a manner worthy of Your gospel…the good news that You came to save us from our sins and rescue us from condemnation. There are those in the administration who personally know You as Savior; others who do not. Lord, by Your omniscience, operate in the lives of each one to let them live in a manner worthy of You and in a way that will glorify You in our nation. We pray this in the name of Jesus, amen.
