PostSubject: My Radio Show - "The Gamut"   Sun Mar 15, 2009 2:10 pm

I realize I'm new here, so I hope this doesn't come across as spam, but I do a weekly radio show Sunday nights. The show is so named because the styles I play "run the gamut" from early Jesus Rock (Love Song, The Way, Larry Norman, etc) through to extreme/black/death metal & nearly everything in between, and some stuff that's not (Joy Electric, House of Wires, etc). Most of the time it's totally random tracks from my collection, but this week (tonight's episode) is a theme. The theme for this week is Mad At The World - I'm doing songs from each of their albums & covering their entire recorded works.

Anyway, it's a 3-hour show from 9 to midnight EST. It's at Blabber Jesus Radio, and you can listen via Winamp, iTunes, Real Player, VLC, or some other players that will handle M3U/PLS-based audio streams. If you need to use Quicktime or Windows Media Player, it's possible, but you can't just click the link to launch your audio player - you'll have to copy/paste the following URL: http://207.192.71.70:8000/

If you guys want to chat w/ me or other listeners during the show, feel free to sign up at the BlabberBoard & use the chatbox at the top of the front page.

At any rate, here's tonight's playlist!

O, Majestic Winter - The Battle For Frostvale

Mad at the World!

From the S/T debut:
I Want To See Heaven
Easy Way Out
Bad Motives
No More Innocence
Mad at the World

From "Flowers In the Rain":
Flowers In the Rain
Why
Faith Is a Perfect Road
In My Dream
Dancing On Your Grave

From "Seasons of Love":
Seasons of Love
City of Anger
When the Wind Blows
The Promised Land (The Deception of Drugs)
The Love That Never Fades

From "Boomerang":
If You Listen
Back To You
Ballad of Adam and Eve
All These Questions
Isn't Sex a Wonderful Thing?

From "Through the Forest":
That Lonesome Road
Lost in the Forest
M.A.T.W. (Reprise)
I've Got a Heaven
I'll Never Go Back There

From "The Ferris Wheel":
Eyes of Heaven
No Secrets
When Life Has a Plan
Going Nowhere Again
The Love

From "The Dreamland Cafe":
On the Stage
The Dreamland Cafe
Still a Way to Heal
Living In the Shadows
If It Were the Last Day

and a tribute to MATW, the House of Wires cover of their eponymous track.

I'm closing the show w/ 3 tracks from Drum & Bass punk band The Ortistix, one song from each of their 3 "albums", "Rock", "Paper" and "Scissors". The tracks are:
Red Bin
Nevermind the Prosperity Message
Friday 13th

Next week will be a mini-feature on Grindcore and an interview w/ Broc Toney of Eternal Mystery! In the coming weeks, I also have an interview lined up with Greg Sweet of Watchmen & Torque to talk about his 2 bands, and what he's doing now in terms of music & ministry.

Cool looking playlist. Are your shows archieved? I only ask because I live on the west coast and 9pm EST is midnight here, and much too late for this working man.

At this point they're not - it's one of the ways the station can do a show w/o all the BMI/ASCAP/SESAC licensing in place like most traditional radio stations can. I may at some point record my shows & serve them up as a podcast, but at this point it's not looking like that's a possibility, mostly for legal reasons Sad

And as for the "workin' man" - I work every Monday morning after my show, though I'm in CST, so I actually finish up around 11 or 11:15 PM Razz

Ouch! Man if I did that I would probably sleep through the next three 8am Monday morning meetings. I say the next 3, cuz after that they would fire me, and I could sleep in all I wanted (well until I was evicted that is)

For future reference, 9 pm EST is 6 pm PST, so it wouldn't be that late to listen.

Thanks for pointing out my stoopidity. geek
I did aktually figure that out myself, but thought nobody would care to see my correction.
But now I still can't listen to most of it because I am in my adult bible study Sunday nights from 6-8, oh well.

^^ No, my tastes & playlists are eclectic, and that's the overall theme of the show, just loads of variety w/in the constructs of rock/metal music. I'd say check it out, and if there are bands you don't like, don't worry, most of them probably don't get played very often because my CD collection is so large Razz

MetalFRO I've been knowing you for quite a while over at Firestream (though I use a different username there) so I think it only fair to warn you that the ears here are much more tender then what we are used to. The name of this forum is quite deceiving in a way actually. I LOVE hard stuff but most here don't. Glad to see you reaching out to some new forums. There are plenty of places for us to discuss are like of hard music. Modern rock and a little older Christian hair metal pretty much rule the roost here though. Not that there is anything wrong with that Chris as I like it all. cheers

That is not an accurate statement. All of us here (OK, not sabidoo) love hard music, just not in general the genres of hard music you prefer. Firestream covers those. We cover the hard stuff that Firestream in general does not.

So Deliverance & Tourniquet doesn't count as "hard stuff" anymore? There are several fans of both bands here.

I for one will confess that I don't listen to any hardcore, metalcore, deathmetal or black metal bands but that is totally a vocals issue. I like to be able to understand most of the vocals I listen to.

BTW the most recent Ultimatum album was fantastic IMO. Twisted Evil

How is it deceiving? I have no way tried to convince people that we discuss the heavier side of metal and metalcore. The term "hard music" was meant to be a more general statement giving the people who check us out the idea that we like a lot of different styles, but we aren't just a metal board. We just don't share your definition of what hard music is.

Nothing like being openly criticized and accused of being deceptive right on your own board over something so small as a name. Had I given this place the look of a more extreme metal board, or listed extreme metal as one of the many meta-tags, then I could see the "deceptive" tag. But, while we may not be into the heavier stuff, I have never tried to get rid of it, either. We just attract a different set of fans here.

Your statement/accusation has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I think you're right Chris in the fact that we just don't share the same defintion of what is hard music. Just a difference of opinions there. I think I used some bad wording though as I definitely wasn't trying to criticize or accuse you of being deceptive. I'm truly sorry for coming across that way. pale
