Today the United States celebrates its independence from
England. On this day in 1776, our forefathers drafted a Declaration of
Independence to establish a free nation based on godly principles. And Psalm
33:12 says, Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
I believe Luke
4:18 nkjv is our spiritual declaration of independence. Jesus said, "The Spirit
of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the
poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the
captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are
oppressed."
I thank God that Jesus was anointed to preach, because it is
the preaching of the Gospel that calls men and women to repentance. When Peter
preached to the crowd on the Day of Pentecost, the people were pricked in their
hearts and asked, "What must we do to believe?" Peter preached and 3,000 people
were saved! (See Acts 2:1-38.)
Jesus was anointed to heal and proclaim
freedom to those in bondage to sin, sickness, fear, and poverty-anything that is
not like God. His healing power can break the chains that are binding you. If
you haven’t given your heart and life to Jesus, today is the perfect day to do
it by praying this prayer:
O Lord, I renounce the devil and all of his
works. I repent of every sin. I am truly sorry. I ask You to save me, heal me,
deliver me, and set me free. From this moment I am going to serve You with
everything that is within me. This is my independence day! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
This is the day I begin to live in the liberty of God’s
Word.
