I think Dynamis, Nazpastor, and Joe61 are all prog fans (so we do have some).
I enjoy some on occasion especially if not all the songs are really long (that latest Orphan Project album is fantastic).
Gonna have to check these guys out.

Yes, I plan to check this out later in the spring or summer- but first have quite a few reviews I need to get caught up on.

Prog is just a shortened name for Progressive Rock/Metal.
There are quite a few Christian prog bands.......

Flagship
Revelation Project
Fall of Echoes
America Gomorrah
Delorean
Kerry Livgren
Orphan Project
Pursuit
Souljourners
Torman Maxt

......just to name a few.

And I have all of those plus Neal Morse, Proto-Kaw, Salem Hill, Ascension Theory, Glass Hammer, Rick Wakeman, Iona, and some other bands that are not really considered "Christian" bands.

I do not have Supernal Endgame yet, but I would like to from the clips I have heard.

Thanks for the explanation.
What are specific characters of Progressive Rock/Metal?

I personally believe progressive rock is much more keyboard/synthesizer oriented than progressive metal. It is difficult to explain, but if you listen to anything involving Kerry Livgren or Neal Morse (AD, Kansas, Proto-Kaw for Livgren and Spock's Beard, Transatlantic {not a "christian" band}, or Neal Morse solo) you get the sound of masters at progressive rock. Very intricate, more laid back sound than group such as Veni Domine someone like them who is more progressive metal.

To me, there is not a lot of distinction between power metal and progressive metal except for the intensitivity in the power metal. Tons of agression and double-bass galore in power metal, whereas progressive metal is more intricate than that and includes influences of the agression and double-bass yet also includes some slower more intricate tones.

OK, that is kind of my definitions, what are some other definitions or thoughts?

Sounds like a pretty good definition to me Nazpastor.

I would just add/emphasize that progressive music often has time changes and long instrumental interludes within one single song. Often they can top the 9, 10, even 12 minute mark in one song. Sometimes the song sounds very different at the end then it did in the beginning.

I completely agree. Often bands are tagged with the power/progressive metal tag. Like these bands:

Narnia
7 Days
Majestic Vanguard
ReinXeed
Seventh Avenue
etc.

Listened to the clips and just didn't care for this. I'll sit this one out.

BTW, you may want to add Ajalon to your list of CProg bands. They have three albums: "The Light at the End of the Tunnel," "On the Threshold of Eternity," and "This Good Place" - all excellent IMO.

Here's a site that's kind of a "clearing house" for CProg (or "CPR" - Christian Progressive Rock): http://www.cprogrock.com/index.html.

If you'd like to know more about the CProg genre, please feel free to shoot me a personal message.

peace,
rob

You can also get several Christian prog tracks for free at www.thundersongs.com You have to sign up for a free account, and then go to the free music tab. You can download a song, or in some cases a couple of songs, from several artists to give them a try.
