This is a straight up Southern Metal band from Cincinnati, Ohio. You can hear the Southern metal influences in his vocals straight out of the gate. There is occasionally some Cookie-Monsterish screaming, but about 90% of the music is clean singing (Not to mention, they have quite a few guitar solos ). They'll be playing on the hard rock stage at Ichthus (which I'm going to today-Saturday...I shall post updates) and you can bet I'll be there in the crowd.

From their website:

Quote:
Preachers of the past would no doubt roll over in their graves if they were to hear the new record from Datum Point. The title of the album, "Wake the Dead" refers to the prophetic hour in which humankind currently rests. The world is in a more vile and depraved state than ever before and Datum Point intends to use the vehicle of music to awake the souls of the "dead".
"Wake the Dead' was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jamie King at The Basement Studios (Whitechapel, Between the Buried and Me). Jamie's phenomenal metal wisdom and skills were definately put to work on this record. The first track, "Master Plan" is a complete assault on the popular prosperity gospel of televangelism, complete with a preacher soliciting credit card donations. Another standout track is "War", a cry to the modern Christian culture to wake up and change their world by confronting the demonic wickedness therein.
Frontman, Reverend Dred often screams, growls and sings on occasion to spread his message of hope and restoration. He's an ex drug addict, alcoholic and satanist become preacher with lots of disdain toward the religious and a lot of love toward the broken. "Most people don't have a problem with the idea of God or Jesus... They have a problem with Christians who spend their time protesting at the memorial service of a deceased rock star when meanwhile kids are starving all over the world." he says.
Meanwhile guitarist DC Shred, bassist SKS and drummer Joshua "Sweets" Young fuel the fire with high octane metal from start to finish. The music is epic and brutal, reminiscent of something you would hear on a mma pay per view event. Raw, intense and on a mission to show the world that there are no boundaries to what God can do, Datum Point offers "Wake the Dead"

I found that you can preorder the CD from them for $20 and it comes with a tshirt, sticker, etc. You will get the CD mailed on June 23, but the disc won't officially be released until September.

I loved the music, and the "cookie monster" vocals seemed to be pulled back in the mix to be more like a backing harmony. I don't mind that at all. This and the new Lordchain are the discs I am most interested in right now. Well, those two and the new Disciple dropping in September.

About half way through the first song, I'm not usually a big fan of most of this type of music, but the singers clean vocals are very cool.
Gonna have to listen to more. Love the band's "dirty look" no "guy-liner" with this group.

Be warned, I found out after I ordered it that it was an EP. However, I feel like for $20 the glow-in-the-dark t-shirt and signed poster of the band is worth it lol

I dont think $20 for a cd-ep & a t-shirt is a bad deal at all, plus you get the signed poster.

I don't need the poster. I would prefer just the EP in a downloadable format since I know that now.

That's ok, I don't need the poster and won't wear the shirt......so I will definately be waiting for a download version......but it's still a good deal if you want all that stuff.

Collecting band shirts is kind of a hobby of mine. Really, I would've paid $20 just for the shirt. The EP and the poster is kind of a bonus.
