| My wife and I left a fellowship last July that is so music-intensive that everything else takes a back seat. We were on no less than four worship teams, and for a year and a half, our saturday nights and sunday afternoons were totally consumed to the point of not spending quality time with our teenage kids and focusing so much on the music that we ignored everything else. We were told that was ok, we were in 'ministry' and that should be our focus. We realized that we had made an idol out of worship and had lost sight of why we worship in the first place. After we left the fellowship, neither one of us touched our instruments for at least three months, and I've been a bassist for 31 years! We are currently having a Bible study with my parents(my Dad is a retired minister), and visiting their church and also the church my father-in-law pastors. We're finally on an even keel spiritually, and have started writing songs again, but the music is kept in its place, and Jesus is where He has to be in our lives. My heart goes out to anyone who has had a similar issue-it is like an addiction. |
