PostSubject: Got a gig Friday night   Mon Aug 25, 2014 6:26 am

It seems that I never get a Mission Of One gig but I do occasionally get to play.  On Friday night, I will be playing bass for Tim Davis, a local Christian musician, at the Nashville Rescue Mission.  We've had several practices but have yet to get through the whole set list.  We are practicing Thursday and need a great productive practice.  We also need the Holy Spirit to anoint us so that we can boldly share Jesus with these guys at the shelter.

Thanks for the prayers!

Cool you can walk on the stage.
Maybe .... is it possible to do one of the Mission Of One songs in this gig.?
Good luck with the practising.
Praying for this gig.
Hope God will amaze you with this gig.

Very cool, playing live is the greatest.  I know you are a bit nervous but you are a pro, try to have a good time.

Thanks!  I just hope I can give Tim what he needs in order for him to really begin to promote his forthcoming album.  He is doing southern rock--a mix of rock and country.

As for doing a Mission Of One song or two--this isn't my show.  This is Tim's and I am just a "hired gun" if you will.  I am just part of his backup band.

Besides, I don't really know about what to do with Mission Of One.  I haven't written a single metal riff lately.  I've got more blues stuff and seem to be headed that way.  I don't think it would be a far cry to move MO1 to the rock/blues side.  However, I am not sure that I want to do that, either.  It might be time to come up with a new name for my blues projects and use MO1 if/when I do something more metal.

What's a band without a bass player?
It's not a complete band.
Play as good as you can, more you can't do.
It goes well.

Well, tonight is the night!  We had around a 3 hour practice yesterday afternoon.  We did actually manage to play through the whole set list.  Some of the songs, however, were the only time I've ever heard some of them.  So, remembering them tonight could be quite the chore.  The songs we've already practiced are still rough as the singer keeps changing arrangements and keys on some tunes.  That makes it near impossible to get things down smooth.  It also makes for a nervous, grumpy alldat.

Pray that this gig is amazing.  Those men at the rescue mission deserve that.  I want all the issues of the music to be gone so that these men can hear the word of God in these songs and be saved.

I'll pray for an amazing gig tonight.
That people are touched by God's love for them.
Give your nervous to God.
God will set you free so you can play like you never have played.

I don't know if anyone at the shelter recorded it or not.  We did not have the space to really take extra people to record this with.  If someone puts it up on the shelter website or on Tim's page, I will share it then.

The gig went pretty well.  Oh, some songs were rough as we had only had one full practice together and a couple of pieced together ones.  What do I mean "pieced together"?  You play a couple of songs and go back over parts without ever playing the song all the way through.  I have a very difficult time remembering song parts and structures that way.

Anyway, the guys at the shelter loved us.  Even though this is southern rock which is a blend of rock and country, the volume was loud enough that the rock side definitely came out.  On the songs we knew well, we rocked out!  On the ones that were rougher, we just improvised and kept playing.
