There are many Bible translations.
What is your favorite Bible translation?

Are there Bible translations you don't like?
No, not of course the words, but because it's harder to understand.

First let me make it clear that I dont consider any Bible to be 100% accurate and it is not my final authority but I enjoy the Thomas Jefferson Bible, The message (for both old and new testament) and I also enjoy the Jewish Tanakh (especially the Torah) and I enjoy the gnostic bible as well and believe it has something to share...

My preferred is the English Standard Version.

King James would be the hardest one to study from because of the antiquated language used, but I like it for the same reason.

I like the New International Version (NIV) and also the English Standard Version (ESV) and the New American Standard (NAS or NASB).

I do not like the King James Version (KJV, or RKJV), much too difficult for me to follow. áI also do not care for Eugene Peterson's "The Message", but a lot of the church going women in my area seem to love it.

The Message is an interesting one...á I'm with Staybrite on that one, though I will say that on occasion at Bible study, someone will read the verse(s) we're studying from The Message and it's been somewhat insightful.

I like the Nearly Inspired Version (as it has been called!)

I'm a big fan of the Amplified version. It takes the original language and gives the traditional definition and includes in parentheses the other possible meanings. I also like the NASB and the ESV although the ESV was translated by Calvinists and you can see it in some of their translations.

If John the Baptist used the King James Version, then it's good enough for me geek

Kudos for anyone who knows what song that's from.

I prefer the NIV.

I use the Holman Christian Standard Bible or HCSB.á We also refer to it as the Hardcore Southern Baptist Bible.á LOL

I also use the New Living Translation, the NIV, and sometimes the KJV.á I like having a plethora of versions to check and get more insight.

The version I love to read is "The Book", a translation similair to NIV.
That's a version in my own language.

In English, I typically use the NET, New English Translation, simply because it's one of the few I can download onto the Bible app I use. (Yes, there are more fully-featured apps, but the one I use loads quickly, which is what counts for sword drills Very Happy) In French, I alternate between updates of the Louis Segond translation, which is sort of the standard translation (a bit in the vein of, say, the KJV, except much closer to modern language), and the Franšais Courant (Common French) translation.

One interesting translation is the Chouraqui, which is a transliteration from the original Hebrew into French. My dad has a copy, but it can be read online. It's fascinating to read.

NIV - Nearly Inspired Version
RSV - Reviled Substandard Version

There's more somewhere!

I read only from the original Greek and Hebrew.

Ok, so I don't. I used to really love the NIV, but lately I've been using the ESV because it is the version my pastor uses and now that I've been reading it, I like the way it handles the language better.

Kinda interesting to see the 2 I use most are the most word-for-word editions - NASB and Amplified.

I use the NKJV almost exclusively.....I like how it keeps the poetic structure of a lot of the Old Testament, without so much antiquated language.

Hmm, the NET (which I use on my phone, because it works offline) is not as word-for-word as I would've liked.
