I hate this thread.  Sad  It makes me miss my childhood, when things were so much simpler.

I got this for my 7th birthday. I did not know it was a REAL person. I broke one of his hands within 15 minutes of opening it Sad

Santa also brought this when I was 6. I remember that Christmas in great detail. I remember a snow storm on Christmas Eve and going outside in the snow with my older brothers. At this point in my life I really had no clue who the "Apes" were but this was a very fun playset. I had all of these dolls including the Astronaut (and I think he was just called Astronaut and not Taylor but I'm not sure).

And if you get a chance, and you loved 8 inch action figures, check out Mego Museum where you could spend hours browsing photos of all of the action figures.

I also had this and for the life of me I never knew what Star Trek episode he was from or if he was just made up. And some one gave it to me (out of the box) so I never knew it was even a Star Trek figure until I was grown up.

When will that be?  When you get there, will you share with the rest of us what it feels like?! Very Happy

I am not quite sure. Maybe I should have said grown OUT instead of grown UP because my waist continues to grow OUT instead of up and my hair is starting to grow BACK as in receed. So I am not sure when all of that starts!

There is a "cheat" for this basketball game. Let me try and remember as I have not played this since about 1984. I had a "generic" version of this game, mine was not the Mattel version but the Sears version (whatever that may be) and the cheat worked on both versions because I showed it to several kids at school and we all had the game.

Give it a try and see if it works (again this is from a vague memory so I don't know if I am correct on this I just remember something worked). Start off in the "home" or bottom corner (either one). Move over 2 spaces (or maybe 3, until you are in the middle. Then press the blue button like a "rapid fire", not once but a whole bunch of times and you will sink 3 pointers all day! The only problem with that is 3 pointers were not added to the game yet. But give it a try. As an adult you'll get bored with the "cheat" after about 3 or 4 tries but as a kid we would spend the whole rainy day recess (the only time we were allowed to play electronics, the rest of the time we were outdoors where kids belonged) trying to score as many points as possible. I think there were 4 of us in my 5th grade class that had this game.

Now that I think about it, this is the version I had. Now I don't remember if the cheat worked on both or not. maybe all the kids in my class had this version

I also had Merlin. I loved this game, it was perfect for road trips and i could play for hours. It's the original Game Boy!

And who is the narrator in the commercial? The voice is very familiar.

We have this one now and my kids like it. They were amazed when my wife and I both told them we had it as kids but had the "big" ones.

I used to play this a lot with my folks.

Kids today wouldn't like it because it requires thought and deducation.

My folks would often play games with my sister and I, until 1976 when my brother was born.

Me too. I could always get them to play a board or card game with me. In fact, I remember when I was very young mom and dad playing Scrabble with my brothers. I was too young to play so I would watch until I got bored and fell asleep.

We currently play board games with our kids, but not near enough. We play Mouse Trap, Candyland and we have a Monoloy Jr that holds their interests pretty good. Haven't brought out the MAD game in a long time, I think it might be time to get that one out.

^^ I remember how it felt when my parents quit playing games with us after my brother was born; they were just too busy or too tired.  That's why I tried to always be available for my kids if they wanted to do something, even if it meant playing a dumb game that I had no interest in (like Twilight Scene-it). I'm not sure how successful I was, but I tried.  Now one is in college and the only games she plays with me is "guess why I'm calling you" (usually something broken ... the car, her computer, her finances ... ).  The other one is 14 and playing games just isn't cool. Yep... my usefulness is no longer for entertainment purposes! Very Happy
