PostSubject: Re: Job issues   Thu Aug 13, 2015 1:53 pm

So today we had a meeting about some stuff going on at my current job.

Starting Monday, there's a new policy coming out that really sucks. I work for our state's Department of Mental Health and some of our clients (not many, about a dozen of 62 here) have "increased level of supervision". Some are 15 minute checks (as opposed to the standard of 30), some are continuous visual observation and some are 1:1.

If a staff is found not following a LOS, they get disciplined. Our CEO decided it would be a good idea to start a new model where supervisors get disciplined for these as well.

So if any of the 4 homes has a staff not following more than 4 times in a floating 12 month period, I get disciplined too. Even if all four incidents happened at 3 AM on a Saturday.

I hate to keep dumping this on you guys but I just need a breakthrough. At this point, I'd rather work a full time job and a part time job than stay here.

Wow, that is horrible.  Nothing like being punished for someone else's mistakes.  Rolling Eyes

So I promise I'm not trying to turn this into the "Josh whines about his job thread"...

Two weeks ago when we had the meeting I mentioned above, we also started doing off-shift coverage. My shift for several years now has been Monday to Friday 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

Now, I'm working all over the place. Mainly Sunday overnight shifts but I've worked a couple others too.

So as if thigns weren't stressful enough, now I'm overly tired because I don't have a consistent sleep pattern.

If you guys would continue to pray, I would appreciate it. If this was the career I wanted forever, that would be one thing. But it's really hard to deal with this crap when you hate the job already...

So the interview went well. I posted this on Facebook but for those who didn't see it:

I interviewed with a placement specialist for a staffing firm. They aggressively screen people for organizations that don't want to post jobs on indeed.com or other websites due to the amount of resume's they will receive of unqualified people. Their specialty is professional staff - healthcare, HR, sales, etc.

I should hear something in a week or so and if I haven't in two, I'm supposed to contact them.

So...

I've emailed the contact at the staffing firm twice with no response. Also, my friend that works at the big healthcare company has been very helpful but I've gotten nowhere with that place.

At this point, I've given up. Frankly, if I get fired or we close down, I have to trust that God will provide a new job. Otherwise, it's clear I have no real skills that make employers want to even interview me.

Thanks for the prayers and encouragement to this point. Don't worry about it anymore, if you still are. After three years of looking, it's gotten through to me that the door is closed.

You're giving up after ONLY three years?  I spent the last 7 of my years with Bridgestone looking for a way out and hating every day that I had to go into that hellhole.  But, when the time was right, things happened.  That is the way God works.

Yikes. I don't know if my psyche can handle 4 more years of this place. I may end up in the psych hospital or jail...

I spent quite a few years as well looking for another job, interviewed with several companies (even quite a few out of state) but I finally found a job where I'm actually respected and still do the work that I've been doing for the past several years . . . oh, and got a hefty pay raise as well Very Happy  So keep on keepin' on.

PostSubject: Re: Job issues   Wed Sep 30, 2015 1:46 pm

So yet another update.

I accepted a second appointment at my job. What that means is when I get off my regular shift (my first appointment) I will, a couple days a week, work another shift for pay.

Frankly, part of my job hunt has been for something that pays a little more because we usually hit the end of our money before the end of the month. So since no new doors are opening yet, I'm going to work a second job (basically, but at the place of my first job) to try to counterbalance things.

I would appreciate your prayers as my regular work week is about to go from 40 hours to 60 hours plus, as well as continued guidance about my job hunt.

Which brings me to my second point.

Sunday our pastor preached from Exodus. He talked about the verse where Moses tells YHWH that the Israelites won't move unless God leads them. This really hit home and I spent a lot of time in prayer Sunday afternoon and Monday and realized that I've been so ready to just get out of my crappy job that I haven't said this - I haven't said "God, I don't want a new job unless you're going with me."

So I've been praying this and we'll see what happens. Hopefully, doors open soon. We're on an intake freeze and we've averaged 12 client deaths a year. Soon, there won't be enough clients to justify keeping 2 site open and keeping me employed...

Thanks all.

Praying you will find a new job soon, and that you will be able to handle the 60 hour weeks.

I routinely work 45 to 50 hours a week (while only getting paid for about 36..but that is another story).  On the rare occasion where I work 60+ hours a week I find my productivity drastically reduced for the last 10 hours.  It can be a drain both mentally and physically...so I know you will need the prayer.

Today's update...

I have an interview with another staffing firm Tuesday morning. This firm is pretty well known here in the St Louis area and I know at least 3 people who have gotten (excellent) jobs through them.

PostSubject: Re: Job issues   Fri Oct 23, 2015 2:50 pm

So I realized I hadn't updated after my last interview. Life has been busy.

So I went to the recruiter and the first thing she said was "Why don't you have a job in a corporate setting as an HR Generalist? I'll tell you why - your resume' stinks!"

We then worked on tweaking my resume' and I was very pleased with the meeting. I sent her my updated resume' and she said it looked great. We're just waiting now for permanent positions that need filled with the companies she works with.

Normally I'd be skeptical about this process but I know two people she's placed in jobs in the last 2 years and I trust them (and I see how much they like their job).

I've struggled in years past with what I want to do as a career. I've thought about HR for years as it's my favorite part of what I do at my otherwise terrible job. As soon as she asked me that question and started talking about getting me into a corporate setting, I knew that's what I wanted to shoot for.

Thanks for continuing prayers.
