You are visited by the VOCALIST FAIRY who proceeds to tell you that you will be granted your wish to be able to sing exactly, perfectly like any vocalist who's ever existed.

You choose ____________ ?
Why ?

J D Sumner

"His vocal range extended below the lowest playable note on the piano, reaching the note G0 in a 26 second vocal slide at a concert while singing backing vocals for Presley."

I've heard Sumner and yes, he is truly a gifted vocalist.
And while Hetfield couldn't shine a light to Sumner... I rather prefer to listen to James :-)

My choice would be to have the vocal talent and abilities of
 Mr. Ken Tamplin.

Ooooh, that's difficult.  I would just like to be more confident as a singer.  Shoot, if Axel Rose can be famous, then anyone should be able to.  I'd just like to have a bit more top end range and be satisfied with what I have.

I guess my choice of Sumner is because I am essentially a baritone with a very short range. I can't go low enough to sing most bass parts, and I can't go high enough to sing most low- to mid-range tenor parts. I really struggle at church, as I am often searching for that space between what everyone else is singing ... which is usually too high ... and singing an octave lower, which is usually too low. And while I had music theory classes in college, I'm not gifted enough to find what would be an acceptable baritone line without seeing the music, which is never since no-one uses hymnals anymore and we are all expected to know the proper tune for the words plastered on the screen. As a result my family is convinced that I cannot carry a tune, so I tend to just not sing.

Sorry ... din't mean to rant. Smile  If I had a choice, I'd just like to be able to sing lower.

Sebastian Bach.   Why?  Grit.  Range.  Power.  But only on the condition that I could pull it off live.

If I were truthfully going to pick someone, I'd probably have to go with Ken Tamplin or David Coverdale.  Both have incredible range but sound their best in their mid-range.  They both know how to hit some high notes, but know not to push it to extremes and damage what they have.  Plus, you have no doubts that these are men singing when you hear their midrange voices.

I was going to say Guy Ritter... but although I'd love to sing like that, I think I would choose

I hate to copy, but I'd probably go with James Hetfield as well. I love the manliness. Or Geddy Lee in the '70s. Razz

Can we retain our own voice? I sing in our worship band and like to tone and range I have.

I can actually imitate James Hetfield, though not for a long time.

If I could imitate someone, I think it'd be Ozzy.

I would say Dale Thompson. In his prime, he could sing anything.

I would have loved to sing like Rob Halford in his prime (singer from Judas Priest).  Same with David Coverdale, Ronnie James Dio, or Geoff Tate.
