PostSubject: Prayer For My Sister   Sun Nov 01, 2015 4:14 pm

My sister, Melissa had a stroke last night.  She's opened her eyes but is unresponsive.  As I write this they are doing an MRI.

Prayers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Progress!  She is now responding to my mom by squeezing her hand.  She is unable to speak but is trying.  So far the medical staff can't find anything wrong.  The scans and test have come back normal.

Thank you for your prayers!

Working for our state's department of mental health, it's often a good sign when people start trying to do things they did before a stroke. Still praying here with lots of hope!

Thank you, everyone!

She sat up today and showed good balance.  They traced the stroke to her heart and are checking her legs for blood clots.

God is awesome, that's for sure!

Yesterday they gave her a washcloth and she tried to wash her face.  Then they gave her a hairbrush and tried to brush her hair.  There still isn't any movement on her right side and she's still unable to speak.  But my dad took her son and granddaughter to see her and she reached out her hand for them.

According to my brother's friend who is a physical therapist, the fact that she was able to be sat up and balance puts her into the top 5% of people who may make a full recovery.

I hope that she does make a full recovery.  Sadly, most of the experience I have with strokes was with my dad.  He had his first in Aug. of 2009.  He had his second one in Dec. of 2009.  He was life-flighted to Vanderbuilt Hospital in Nashville where we had to take him off the machines and say goodbye just 3 short days later.  We buried him 3 days before Christmas that year.  So, when I say, "Bah, humbug," you will understand partially why.

It has been years now and I am dealing with it.  It is just what you do.  What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

I will keep praying for your sister.  I just remind myself that the Lord gave my dad the ultimate healing.  I would rather have the Lord take him home than for him to have never been right due to brain damage.

Bummer, I am leaving WA tomorrow (for a week).  I know it's not the best of circumstances, but I would have attempted to venture out to meet with you for lunch or something if we were here at the same time.
