PostSubject: Television   Tue Dec 15, 2015 3:44 pm

We recently had cable installed on our television.  We haven't had any television service (other than Netflix) since 2008.  Why did we do it?  Mostly so my wife could watch all the Seahawks football games....well that and it was only about $10 a month more to get cable + internet compared to what we were already paying for internet.  Also our kids are older now and have gone so long without television that they could really care less about most of it.

I have spent a few hours a day over the last three day looking around cable tv and cannot really find anything worth watching except for possibly new episodes of SHEILD or The Colony (assuming it will be any good...coming in January).  Last night I watched 3 hours of WWE with my oldest son....it was entertaining...but 3 HOURS!?!?!  UGH.

So is there anything you like to watch on television?  Any shows you catch once a week or more?

I get free cable where I rent and I have a nice TV... but I never plugged the cable into it haha.  Been there for four years.  I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to TV shows but I know AMC has had some pretty quality shows (other than The Walking Dead which I thought was pretty stupid - at least the first season since I didn't watch the rest).  Also if you don't mind the commercials, you'll be able to watch movies with all the sex/violence/language edited out.  Smile

My parents have Netflix and while I was over at their place yesterday we started watching Twin Peaks.  I've been wanting to watch it for years but never got around to it.  We're halfway through the first episode (they're loooooong!) but it's very good!

Look for MeTV.  You'll find some great shows on there. We record Batman and watch when we have time. I also enjoy the SEC Network but I am sure the SEC is prob not your thing. If you have Universal channel look for Monk. A great detective show. Also TCM. And then s time of year Hallmark and Lifetime play Christmas movies.  Occasionally there is some good stuff on USA but I will also say Raw is a little long at 3 hours. Vh1 Classic has some great shows too. The kids love Boomerang (classic cartoons), Nick, Cartoon Network and Nick Jr. AMC has some pretty good shows too. I basically don't watch anything from channels 1-90. Most of what we watch is I. The 900's HD Channels. But most channels are crap. Too much "My 600 pound life" kind of shows.

Oh and National Geo and Discovery have some cool shows.

I am not much of a television person.  The only time I have to watch is during the weekend, and that is mostly afternoon football games.  I have, however, taken to a couple of programs over the years, including "Hell's Kitchen", "Criminal Minds" and "Shark Tank".

Other than that I enjoy the History Channel & AE.

In this house, the wife controls the remote. Frankly cuz I don't really care about TV or what we watch.

When I was a bachelor (20 years ago) I also had no cable. For 2 years I didn't watch any TV, only occasionally would I watch a vhs movie or documentary.
When we got married, we got cable so the kids could watch Rugrats and Spongebob and stuff. We didn't become TV couch potatoes until about 3 years ago. My wife loves shows like the 600 pound life (mentioned earlier Very Happy  ) -she says watching that, and watching hoarders can really make you feel so much better about yourself   Laughing .
We both dig Monsters Inside Me, house flipping shows, American Ninja Warrior, Strong Man Competitions, and various forensic shows (all real ones, no dramas).

Me personally ?  I like to find a cool show on Netflix and binge watch it until I've seen all seasons. I've already done every episode of 24, Numb3rs, Agents of SHIELD, Breaking Bad, Heroes, Bones, and a few others I can't think of now.

Thanks for the suggestions.  My family is a big fan of Monk and have seen every episode (twice!).  Some of those others I will have tolook into.

I have to confess I am not much of a fan of reality tv (except maybe for some cooking shows).  My wife is a junkie for all those house flipper and restoration shows (I can't stand them).  When ever I sit in front of the idiot box I wan't to escape reality, not be forced to sit through some television producers edited version of someone else's reality.  Many of those shows embarrass me, it makes me feel like I am watching someone else's messed up life in some kind of twisted effort to make me feel better about my life.

I have only seen a few eps of Monk but enjoyed them. I probably need to get the DVD's thru Netflix to see some more.

I don't have cable myself but there is not that much I really want to see. Normally I can see SEC football games on CBS. If not on there I tend to go down the street to a sports bar to eat and watch the game.

My shows I either watch online or on my tablet with the apps for those channels.

I tune in for NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, The Flash, S.H.I.E.L.D., Castle, Supergirl. Next month starts season 2 of Agent Carter as well as the new season of The X-Files. Those are on my list for sure.

I HATE reality TV, however last night I found myself drawn to this STUPID show called "Married At First Sight" on A&E where complete strangers get married and go on honeymoons, etc. They have 6 weeks to see if they can make it work. Dumb, but i watched anyway.

Discovery also has "How It's Made" and "Mythbusters". Those are reality shows that are GOOD shows. Also, American Pickers is interesting.

And The Michael J Fox show was an excellent, humorous FAMILY show so naturally NBC cancelled it before the end of the first season, which was about him having Parkinson's.

My wife and I watched the first few episodes of the Michael J. Fox show and were disappointed.  There were a few points of funny but I just didn't click with us.

Oh, and in case anyone is interested (I know I am) The X-Files is coming back to FOX in Jan. I am a huge fan of that and Fringe but I think I like Fringe a bit more.

The first ep of Monk I watched was on TV (as opposed to Netflix) and I had no idea about Monk's background and problems.  So I thought the 1st episode I watched was weird and didn't watch another one for several months.  When I started watching it on Netflix, I totally understood the story and began to really enjoy the show.

We watched the entire series of Monk on Netflix.  It was goofy but we enjoyed it.

I found this last night, looks like it has some cool old classic tv shows on it.  Caught the end of an Andy Griffith Show episode last night.

This might be kinda quirky- but one of the newer cable channels (45.3) plays reruns of old game shows.  So in recent weeks I have caught reruns of Match Game, The Price is Right, etc.

Oh man that sounds like a fun time!  Some of those from the 70's were hilarious, especially that ones that featured celebrities helping ordinary people win.

Yeah we used to have Game Show Network and it was awesome! joker's wild, card sharks, password all those great 70's game shows. They dropped it a couple of years ago, I miss that channel. MeTV is what TVLand used to be. TVLand is nothing like it used to be.

I was watching the same channel a couple nights ago and they showed a game show in black and white (it must have been from the early 60's) that included a 5 member celebrity panel that featured very young versions of Johnny Carson and Betty White.  Epic!

I can imagine your selection of tv shows (and even tv channels) is quite different than it is here the USA.
Sometimes I am a little jealous of Fundy living in Britain because I like a lot of British television that just doesn't get played here in the U.S.  I just heard they are doing a new season of Red Dwarf.  It will play live on television on Britain but I will have to wait for it to come out on dvd to see it here in the states.
