| Ok I'm going to pull and Guilty/Forgiven, and throw a little bit of a hissy fit here.
How many of you are invited (and expected to attend) a birthday party for your cousins children?
My wife's cousin is in her early 40's and has one child, a boy, who turns 3 this month. We were invited to his first birthday party and happily attended. We were also invited to his second party and I managed to get out of it (somehow...can't really remember how). He is having his third birthday party this afternoon and we are expected to go again.
Now I remember inviting pretty much everyone in the extended family to all of my children's first birthday parties. For their 2nd and beyond we pretty much just invited the childrens grandparents and other childeren of a similar age. Maybe it is just me, but to continue to invite every second and third cousin you know to your childs 2nd, 3rd, 4th (etc) birthday party seems a little ridiculous.
Add to this that she has move about an hour and a half away from the rest of of the family.....forcing us to drive 3 hours round trip just to get there and back. Thirdly she scheduled his part for a 3-day holiday weekend (traffic is going to be horrendous). But if we don't go she will throw a huge fit on facebook (yes she has done it before). I kid you not, this is the last time I will go to this kids birthday party....she better not invite me again because I'm not even going to RSVP. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | I hate sitting through them. Especially when the kid doesn't even know what's going on. Then when the parents try and get the child to open each of their presents and said child is more interested in the bow and wrapping paper.
It's Jr's Birthday? I'm sorry, I can't make it. I have a full frontal lobotomy and skin peel scheduled.

| I also chose #1 "IT STINKS" ! Like Staybrite, I didn't have a problem with them when all the kids were little, but as they got older, it just didn't seem necessary anymore in my opinion ( other than, maybe an excuse to have a get-together for the adults, I guess). It's all fun and stuff when they're really young, but after the first few years, it seems really unnecessary and gets to a point of spoiling them. But to the actual question- How do I feel about going to children's Bday parties... I'd rather chew aluminum foil !! | |

| So here is the funny part, it took us over 2 hours to get there. It was so late that we could only stay for about 45 minutes (we had another engagement we had to be at)..and it took us an hour and a half to drive back. That's right over 3-1/2 hours of driving for a 45 minute visit. What's more is we were the only family on her side to show up (other than her parents). At least we got to see him open several of his presents before we had to leave. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| I don't mind them if the cake is really good!
Oh, I hate going just like the rest of you. As youth pastor, my wife and I get invited to many of these. We will go hoping to just show love to the family. What we don't do is get sucked into every party the kid has. We did that with some friends of ours and it gets to be a hassle. I understand they are inviting you because they want to spend time with you, but at a birthday party the parents are the ones running around trying to make sure Jr. has the perfect day and is acting perfect. The entertainment is watching the child destroy that fallacy. | My nieces and nephews are all teenagers now. So when it's possible I prefer not to go. I'm not really a birthday party fan. But the cakes makes it all good.

| Bad news Alldat & RockerVu2......there was no birthday cake at this party. They had a huge platter of cupcakes instead. Unfortunately we had to leave before they even starting passing out the cupcakes.
Come to think of it, it must have been a long party. It started at 2:30 and we had to leave at 4....and they were only about 1/2 done with the presents. It must have gone one for another hour at least. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Fortunately all of our cousins don't live anywhere near us anymore (yes, Texas IS that big ) so we've almost never been invited. | |

| I didn't select an answer, because it depends on the kid.
If it's a close friend or family, I don't mind. We have several friends that are like second family and we celebrate each other's birthdays and so forth. Same for my niece and nephew.
Now if it's a distant family member, meh...

I hear that, I was just in Texas this last fall and was hoping to meet you for lunch or dinner or something....until I found out you were still something like 250+ miles away! Would have been a little difficult to talk my parents out of their only vehicle for a 10 hour round trip. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

Same. Must be weird to go as an adult.
