Missionary One changed into Mission Of One.
When was it that you got the idea to start with Missionary One?

You write songs and music.
What is it that inspire you to write songs?
Things happened in life, situations of others that thouched you?
Or are there other influences that makes you to write songs?
Do you still write songs?

What was the first song you have written?
And what is the last song you have written?

When you write songs what is there first the music or the words for a lyric?

Bands as Rose, Mad At The World, Bride influenced your music style.
Are the modern rock bands an inspiration for you too?

Now I hope you can work on the mixings of Mission Of One's third CD so we all can listen what you created and how the quality is improved with the new gear.

Have you ever considered to make a CD in an complete different style, for example a praise & worship style?
Or maybe an other music style?
No, no we know Mission Of One will never make a polka or a country CD:lol!:
Good luck when you are in the Batcave to mix the songs so we can hear what you created.
I am so looking forward to listen to the new CD.

Missionary One started way back in 1994. I had been playing a garage band, but some of my songs just didn't seem to fit the style we were trying to work on. So, I took six songs, went to a small, cheap studio, and recorded my first demo tape "The Future's Already Known". With the positive review I got in Heaven's Metal, I was able to sell around 75 tapes. I had no other advertising whatsoever. I managed to get one whole college radio station locally to play me.

Some songs are definitely life experiences. For example, I wrote the songs "Dark Days" and "Sea Of Despair" during some times of extreme depression. They were somewhat my therapy. I think God used writing to help me express what I was feeling in order to help me get turned around.

Life experiences of others have helped me to write, as well. You've heard "Hell Inside" that was based on one of the kids in my youth group. Even though it hasn't been released on anything other than an early demo tape, I also wrote a song called "Daddy's Little Girl" which is a horrifying look at a young girl who is raped by her dad.

I do still write some. I have music for several songs worked out. I also have some lyrics written, but nothing complete right now. There are still some of the old demo tape songs I would like to redo and bring out now. But, I hope to continue writing songs and adding new things, too.

I really cannot remember the first song I wrote. I think it was called "Kiss The Cobra". That was back in my pre-Christian days, and lyrically was not fitting to release due to the sexual content. Luckily, that song was never recorded, and I no longer have a copy of the lyrics. That trash is gone forever.

The last COMPLETE song I wrote is called "The 3rd Door". It is kind of in the Building 429 style. I co-wrote it with a guy in my youth group. He started the lyrics after hearing me preach a sermon about God always giving us a way out of temptation if we'll look for it. Most of the words didn't really work, so I took it and redid most of it. But, I give him equal credit because I never thought about making that into a song. I inspired him to write, and he inspired me to write music and tweak the lyrics. It isn't the first time I've written with a youth group member. On the new CD, there will be a song called "Are You Listening?" that I co-wrote with a girl that used to be in our youth group.

It could be either one. Sometimes I will write a lyric and start hearing how it should go in my head. Other times, I will have music written and try to fit a new lyric into that music. I really don't have a set songwriting pattern.

Definitely. I really like the sound of Third Day, Kutless, and Building 429. You will hear some of their influence on the new CD. This disc will be varied. There are some 80's style hard rockers, a blues tune, a 70's funk rock song, some modern rock, and a couple of worship tunes that would fit nicely on one of Third Day's "Offerings" CDs. I like a lot of styles, and I see no reason not to try to combine them on a CD--if the end result makes the project sound like these styles fit naturally, not just thrown together to fill a CD. I think I can pull this off.

The mixing is going great. I am halfway there, and hope to finish up this week. That's my goal, and I hope all of you will bust my chops if you see me online much on Wed.-Sat. to get back to work!

I couldn't have mixed this and made it sound this good without the tips of Jon Hooper and Thomas Wilson. Their recording knowledge has really helped me. I have a few pages of notes I have made from tips they either e-mailed me or posted on the web.

OK, back to the question: I have considered doing other styles of music. I would love to do a worship CD--as long as I am not just recording a bunch of tired cover tunes. I would want to either write or co-write and record new songs. I wouldn't mind doing a couple of cover tunes, but they would have to be done in a way that made it mine. I think Kutless did this with "Strong Tower". Petra Praise 2 was also a good project that mixed old and new songs that gave new life to the oldies. The original SonicFlood also did this well.

I have thought about doing a blues CD, a modern rock CD, etc. But, I may just keep mixing styles on my future releases just to see how it all sounds. To be honest, I won't know what I will do next until that next project is complete.

Thanks to both of you.
