Who would pay $60 for a cassette?  If you would, I have one I'll sell you.

For several years I couldn't give cassettes away.

Almost no one has a player anymore.  I would buy one of an album never on CD or MP3 just because I have the gear to transfer it.  Other than that, I would not buy a cassette.

I still love CDs, but they are dying fast.  The Target stores near me no longer carry music.  I've also noticed a huge decline in the number of DVD and Blu-Ray titles.  Our local Walmart only carries ONE blu-ray player in store.  You know what that means?  We will soon see the final push to streaming and we'll all be stuck with CDs that no one will want and eventually we won't have the machinery to play them.

I really should start buying digital only releases rather than CDs.

I don't understand why anyone would pay that much for a single album in any format.  I can't even think of many box sets I'd pay that much for.

Agreed.
Although I did pay $30 for an original Rage of Angels album several years back.....but I won't do that again.

I think the most I've paid for one album already in print was Michael Knott's Screaming Brittle Siren - $25.

Now, I've pledged a good amount for artists I like to complete a project:
1. Michael Knott - Rocket and a Bomb Anniversary Concert (I pledged $50 and get a concert DVD, mp3's of the concert, a cd of his new EP recorded after the concert and a signed copy of one of his older albums I've never gotten around to buying)
2. The Fast Feeling (I pledged $16 plus a couple for shipping for a CD when it comes out.)
3. John Mark McMillan - Mercury & Lightning PledgeMusic pledge (One of my top ten artists, I pledged $20 to help him finish the cd and will get an autographed lyric booklet from him with the cd.)

I remember at one time someone had Bloodgood's Detonation (IMR release) listed on Amazon for $1,000! Didn't even have free shipping! But it is currently on there for $50. Crazy, crazy!

I bought that on CD for 1 dollar from a swap meet vendor. Got the CD and LP now... doubt I could get 60 bucks for BOTH !

Speaking of cassettes, yesterday at the swap meet I passed up 3 giant boxes of tapes for 25 bucks. Must've been at least 300 tapes of all genres from rock, metal, pop, 80s, to dance, jazz, etc.  Kinda wished I liked tapes, I would've had fun going thru those boxes.

I probably would have offered him $5.  I'm guessing he won't be able to sell that many for even $25.

I know we all have our own decision making processes, but all of those seem completely reasonable to me.  I don't mind paying a little more for extra stuff.  I always buy the deluxe version of the new Demon Hunter albums because they always have cool artwork, a DVD, and other stuff.

I usually buy deluxe versions too. As far as the crowd-funding projects, I don't mind to pay a little extra as it seems the artists (usually) are thankful and put more into it because not only do they have creative control, they want to give back to those that helped make the project possible.
