| I hope you get a lot of takers. With my Christmas sale, I managed to sell 4 downloads. Even at $3.75, I can't move them. I have the best sounding, most honest album I have ever done and I cannot get people to listen. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

| We've received 1 download so far. We just started a Facebook Ad Campaign. So far there have been several "Likes" outside of our circle but no downloads.
Such a sad, sorry state of the music biz.

| I'm thinking this is likely why it seems some artists are moving to digital only sales, especially through a site like bandcamp. Are you guys even able to recoup the costs of printing discs? _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Through CreateSpace discs are only printed as ordered so if somebody orders a CD it's printed and sent to them. No overhead costs for me. Now I've ordered several discs myself for promos and such and have not recouped the cost yet. But I'm only about $250 in the hole so it's not a huge deficit and I don't have boxes of product stored. | |

Thanks to doing the cardboard sleeve route, my initial sales through here, Facebook, and CMR covered those costs. I will never, most likely, recoup what I spent on the mixing/mastering. Even though I have more than enough material to do an EP and another full length, I am asking myself if it is worth it to do this again. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

I've got a new song in the works for Joshua's Creed. Going to do another one because I love creating music. - Ahlitah wrote:

And that is probably what I will do as well simply because I don't want to waste the songs I have created even if I am not setting the world on fire with them. I just doubt that, unless I use CreateSpace, that I will ever pay to print CDs again.

| The problem with having to buy in bulk for any emerging artist is left over product. I still have 8 Judah cassettes in their shrink wrap from '97. | |

I was thinking about that the other day. If I created an album I would probably have had 100 cds pressed. After selling two of them and giving away 48 I would still have 50 cd's in boxes around the house. My wife would be seriously pressuring me to get rid of them so she could make more room for her clothes! _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

Anyone reading this and is still on the fence, now is the time to pick it up! Ditto that. Though I wonder why MP3 is still the default format (at BC and others) these days. Can't every media player in the last 5-8 years handle AAC? At least as good fidelity, and save almost half the drive space.

| Didn't Bandcamp give you the option for AAC? | |

It did, and that's what I always get, when given the option. I just don't know why it's not the default choice these days.

| Gotcha. My guess is that the masses think that mp3 is the only format they can use. | |

| My guess is that only serious digital audiophiles care about higher formatted versions. Most music fans don't buy music. They either illegally download it or stream it these days. They don't care about MP3 VS. AAC VS. FLAC VS. WAV. They don't care if it is on CD or vinyl. They just want free music. Sadly teens today have never really had to buy music and they don't even care if you tell them they are stealing from the artist. Music has always been free to them.

My kids are like that as well. They won't "steal" the music (at least not where their dad can see) but they get most of their music from Spotify playlists or Youtube. They think I'm crazy for buying music. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

My kids are like that as well. They won't "steal" the music (at least not where their dad can see) but they get most of their music from Spotify playlists or Youtube. They think I'm crazy for buying music. Ask them to give away their hard work for free. Ask them how long they would keep doing that work, if everybody got the benefit without paying. Ask them if they want to continue having great music to listen to. Ask them to draw the conclusion. I like free as much as anyone, and I've discovered plenty of free sampler compilations in the past year—found lots of great bands this way that I hope to buy from soon. That's the point of the samplers, after all. Back to the format issue, I'd think filesize alone would make AAC a winner over MP3, but maybe "em pee three" is just ingrained in the collective unconscious.
