| So I have a Bob Dylan CD I bought used and the first couple tracks skip when I played it. Usually this isn't a big concern because in the past, CDs have still ripped to my computer and since I mostly listen to them on my phone anyway, I didn't worry about it.
However, these tracks skip on the mp3's as well! Anybody know how to fix this?

| They make these "disc doctor" kits that are supposed to fix them (assuming the skip is from a scratch on the playing side of the disc (but I've never had any experience with them). But I'm sure most of them cost more than the price of new cd. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Yeah, that's my concern. The CD itself was only like $6. Someone at work told me a small amount of toothpaste works. I guess i'll try that... | |

| I have a Disc Dr and used it for years. If you're a CD nut like me, it's worth the investment. Depending on the severity of the scratch, it works great ! | |

| I also have one. While it would be cheaper to buy a new CD, it won't be if you have to replace several over the years due to scratches. Buy one if you can get one.
The toothpaste doesn't work. Peanut butter doesn't either. The laser cannot see through those. You have to remove the scratch. | I've heard that some serious elbow grease and a vigorous rubbing with a steel wool pad will buff out that scratch. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Toothpaste or polishing compound may work depending on how bad the scratch is. I've always used the latter. Sometimes it is just a defect (pinhole in the foil layer). Nothing you can do about that. _________________ "If you are not concerned about your neighbor's salvation, you should be concerned about your own."

| I had a CD that the first track wouldn't read. I rubbed toothpaste on it and buffed it off. The play side of the disc looked foggy but the first track played after that. | |

| staybrite and G/F,
Why don't I just use a wire brush? That'll work better right?
