So I was looking at my CD collection this weekend to see if I had any I wanted to clear out (I didn't...).

I noticed something interesting and wished I had taken pictures. When you get to the B's, I have one Boston CD and somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 Bob Dylan CD's....

(Just to clarify, I know Boston has more albums but everything I've heard after that first one seemed like Tom trying to recreate the magic of that first one. And Bob Dylan is in my top 5 favorite performers...).

So who do you have a bunch of stuff from? Who do have just 1 of?

Interesting question.  After looking through my list it appears that most of the bands/artists that I only have a single album from only released one album.  I do have a few where I only own 1 album....and sometimes it's a greatest hits album.  Here are the number of albums I have from a few artists

ABBA-1 (G.H.)
Aldo Nova-1 (G.H.)
Cher-1
Concrete Blonde-1 (G.H.)
Chris Isaak-1 (G.H.)
Fleetwood Mac-1 (live)
Men at Work-1 (G.H.)
Tourniquet-3 (and that's all I want)

My largest collections are from these bands....and I don't have everything from any of them.

Asia-12
Doro-17
Heart-12
Judas Priest-11
Queensryche-13
Resurrection Band-12
Saint-13
Scorpions-10
Stryper-12

I would say I have the most CDs by Apologetix.  I also have a ton by Bride, Saint, Petra, Rez, and Stryper.

I have quite a few sections in my collection that belong to one band/artist, such as Bride (every album up till about 2009), Megadeth (all albums), nearly every CD by MWS, huge sections just for Michael Card, Newsboys, Petra, Iron Maiden, KISS, Van Halen and so on.
As for the largest section, just like Alldat, it belongs to ApologetiX, I own every album except their Greatest Hit albums (when you own all their albums, it seems a waste of money to buy Hits CDs)

Every studio and Live ApologetiX album released, including some rare early cassette recordings that never made it to CD and some live bootlegs. Officially my largest collection by any one artist

A quick count gave me these numbers of big collections:

Bob Dylan - 37 (someday it'll be all of them!)
Brad Paisley - 13
Five Iron Frenzy - 15
Glenn Kaiser - 12 (19 if you count his two discs with Darrel Mansfield and the 5 with GKB)
Resurrection Band - 17 (although some of them are cassettes)
Showbread - 12

Bands with just one:
Audio Adrenaline - 1 (Adios hits collection)
Boston - 1 (of 5 or 6)
Big Chris & D'Bare Bones Band - 1 (because that's all they've released)
Guerilla Rodeo - 1 (because that's all they've released)
Johnny Cash - 1 (the Storytellers album with Willie Nelson)

No, that would be Jim (Guilty/Forgiven), he's the one with the massive Celine Dion collection. (not kidding).

I am doing my best to fix that!  I have rhythm guitars and bass already tracked for two songs!

I have not done an official count, but when factoring studio albums, live albums and compilations Bride is the group in which own the most CD's.  Close second is probably Rez Band.

Own only one CD from Michael W. Smith, and it is a good one- "The Big Picture".  Also have only one from Russ Taff, "Medal".

On the smaller side, my "Q" section only has two in it and both are by Q-Stone.

I've almost all CDs from Whitecross, Bride, Stryper.
From Mission Of One I have all the CDs.
I've more "X" section bands than "Q" bands.
O yeah, I've the newer CDs of Disciple.
X-Sinner and Xalt.

I didn't even know they had that many albums.  Of course I'm not a fan of any of the pre-Steve Perry era stuff.  I only have about 8 of them (but none of it is pre "Escape" era stuff)

The link above is to the "official" list from the band's web site. There are also at least three "unofficial" live recordings from the Steve Perry era that have been released on CD (not bootlegs -- at least not the two I have -- as they were proper recordings made by radio stations that were airing the concerts live) and one Japan-only compilation of ballads ("The Ballade") that was released by someone other than the band.

For some reason I always seem to forget about the live albums (I typically don't get many...if any....of those as I'm not a huge fan of live stuff).  That list reminds me that I'm missing the "Raised on Radio" album.

I'm the same in regards to Live albums. There are a few specific live albums that are musts, but beyond those, I don't care to own all the many concert releases for each band.

I love live recordings if they are professionally done and the band performs well, and if they are mixed well with a minimum of crowd noise. I hate bootlegs and cellphone recordings, as then all you hear is the guy holding the camera and the people around him.

If the bootleg is a board recording it can sound pretty good. One of my favorite live albums is a Bob Dylan bootleg recorded from the soundboard.

I have a soundboard recording of a bootleg Heart show that I really dig.  They played a few obscure cover songs on the set list, and the recording quality was quite good for a bootleg.
