Pet Peeves Empty
PostSubject: Pet Peeves   Pet Peeves I_icon_minitimeThu Aug 10, 2017 8:24 am

So this is exactly what it sounds like. Let's talk about our pet peeves.

Mine is this: when an artist is amazingly talented but I don't dig the style of music they play. I feel like I'm missing out on something.

Example: The Theocracy thread. Those guys are exceedingly talented, especially Matt. But I just don't get into that style for some reason.

Another example is Carrie Underwood (I know, I know). She's on a couple Brad Paisley songs (who I love) but I just don't care much for her stuff.

Come on! Let's grumble like the old men most of us are!

Get off my lawn!!!

I can't stand it when my neighbors play music really loud.  Mostly because I don't like their crummy taste in music.  The neighbor directly next to me was so bad that several people complained.  They were renting the place and got evicted.

I had that problem with one of my college neighbors.  Our apartment building walls were really thin, no real insulation between the units, and he started coming home around 2:30-3:00 in the morning drunker than a skunk (although I'm really not sure how drunk a skunk is) and then woke me blasting Hank Jr.  I eventually decided to get even, so I turned my 80s cabinet speakers right up against the wall, turned the sound system up as loud as it would go, and started looping the first 7 or 8 seconds of this.  Cleared the problem right up.

One of my big pet peeves is when people use "literally" to mean figuratively.  No, since you are standing here telling me the story, you did not "literally die".  Idiot.

Hahaha I'm glad I am not the only one.  I had a friend who would use that word just about every sentence.  I just started mocking her as often as she said it and soon enough she was cured.  afro

Her: "This is literally the best ice cream in the world!"
Me: "LITERALLY the best ice cream in the world???  Wow, I better stock up on it then!"

etc. etc.

On a similar note to the whole "literally" vs "figuratively" thing.

I can't stand when people use "buzz words", especially when they use them incorrectly.  If I have to hear another person on one of those real estate shows my wife watches say the words "open concept" or "price point".  I feel like I want to "literally" climb through the television and choke them until they pass out.  Another buzz work I am sick of is "epic".

I enjoy that piece but it's not one to just throw on in the car and enjoy the ride. It's a challenging piece.

Same here. I had someone I supervise tell me she was so mad she could literally explode and I asked her for a poncho. She looked at me funny and asked why - I told her if she exploded, I wanted protection from her flying body parts and spraying fluids.

Our QA person (who routinely treats people like they are idiots) frequently uses the phrase "(That client) has been flying under the radar recently." when a client has several issues. No, if that person was under the radar, we wouldn't be talking about them! You keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means.

People who cannot drive due to using their cell phone!

People who drive too slow on any road!  Get out of may way!  Why are the police not writing tickets for impeding the flow of traffic here in Tennessee?  We have a 2 year old law just for that and all they care about is speeding!

Neighborhood kids who think that my yard is a public sidewalk because they are too freaking lazy to stay on the street.  Two more houses, and we're talking small houses, and they could go around.  No!  Despite my "No Trespassing" signs, they still use my yard like it is a public street even when it is dark out.

People who squeeze the middle of the toothpaste tube instead of squeezing from the end.  Are you insane?  Then you end up with all the toothpaste at the wrong end.  Show some consideration and squeeze it from the end.  My wife finally got the memo and bought a little thing that goes on the end of the tube and you slide it up.  This way she can squeeze from the middle and then slide the remaining toothpaste up.  What a woman!!!

OK, enough of my rants.....for now!!!!

NEW pet peeve--parents of special needs kids who will call the school board if their child has an accident on the bus and then wants to blame the teacher and aids even though we have a schedule for bathroom changes but will let their own child sit in feces overnight until is it completely dried.

Parents who accuse you of stealing money from their child when they have money missing from their wallet but fail to think that you have to send lunch money every week.  Fortunately, they can check the kid's lunch account and see that the money was put on there.  I am not losing a job or going to jail over a mere $10.

Mice who think they can live in my house.
When you put a trap for them with cheese, they eat the cheese, but I never have seen a dead mouse.

Try peanut butter. It's harder for them to get off the trap and takes longer.

I don't mind people calling them fur babies but yeah... I have a friend who used to say this and then had a (human) daughter... she suddenly stopped.

I've kind of gotten used to it (especially for couples/singles who can't or don't have kids)....but it used to really bug me for some reason.
