| Got this from a friend of mine in Albuquerque, NM who is a science teacher and I thought I would share: | Quote: | We celebrated the Chinese New Year with our Chinese friends that we "sponsored" through the UNM Foreign Students Program. They both graduated and have a 5 year old son in Hope Christian School. The parents are not Christian. We asked them about the details of the New Year (Year of the Rat), which is calculated as year 4705, as to what the starting point was. They were not sure, but told us they remember learning in school in China that the counting began when the Chinese people were first gathering just prior to the Xia Dynasty (which is the first one); when the 6 land areas were combined under one rule. This dynasty was followed by the Shang Dynasty, which most Chinese are very familiar with. Then the Qin and Han Dynasties. So if we take 4705 and subtract 2008 and subtract again 1 for the lack of a zero when going from A.D. to B.C., we get 2696 B.C. Interestingly enough, even though this was a data point that I did not consider in the Age of the Earth (Creation), the Flood and the Tower of Babel, I got 2700 B.C. plus or minus 10 years or so for the Tower of Babel event. Close enough for Reliability Engineers! It makes sense, that the Chinese would count time from the Tower of Babel Dispersion rather than from the Flood or the Creation Event. They kept records of the establishment of their culture, families and the Chinese Nation. This data does not dictate the Tower Event date, but simply confirms what the Bible already seems to indicate on its own merits. Neat. |
