PostSubject: In need of a lift   Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:24 pm

Hey all,

You may have noticed I haven't been posting on the forum much lately (though I have been reading a lot of the posts!). Part of the reason I haven't been on much is because I am spending literally ALL of my spare time practicing for my fast-approaching university music auditions (February 28th and March 10th). I am SOOO scared for these audition, terrified.

I love music so much. I love to worship through it, express myself through it, play, listen to, and create it. And I know without a doubt that God has instilled a desire to learn and to pursue music in me. I also know without a doubt that i need to trust God with these auditions, and trust that whatever happens was meant to happen and that all i can do is keep working hard and trust. ..... that's a lot of trust when this will affect both my future education and career so I would hugely appreciate prayers that I will able to trust and see these auditions from a positive outlook so i can stop stressing myself out so much lol Razz

Thank-you very very much
Beth

The best advice I can give you is to stop trying. Just play! When you
stop trying and just do it, it will be natural and not forced.

Good Luck break a leg

Oh, when you audition, imagine the judges are nekkid.....

Sabidoo is right. Don't play to impress the judges. When you do these auditions, play and allow God to fill you. Just play for Him! If that heartfelt love for God and for music comes through, these auditions will be a piece of cake because your judges will be amazed.

Beth I can imagine this filled you with fear.
I agree with the words of sabidoo, alldat and TallTyrion.
Rely on God.
He has given you the gift to play music.
Do if God is the only audience listening to you.
Play for His honor.
I'm sure God loves it when you play for Him alone instead of the juges who are at the audition too.
Hope that helps you a bit to relax and enjoy of this more.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it the kind advice! I've done a couple practice sessions lately where I start off with listening to Worship tunes, not thinking about musical concepts but just chilling with them, there's actually this saxophonist, Sam Levine who has some great arrangements of Worship music, it's relaxing me a bit which is great and surely enough with that I don't sound as tense when I play nor do I feel as tense Smile

They went really well! I've gotten accepted to 2 of the 3 schools (jazz programs) I auditioned at so far and I am just waiting to hear from my top choice. My top 2 are located in Toronto so i know that no matter what I'll be there next year Very Happy

Thanks again for your prayers during my audition time guys!

Great job Beth, here is praying that your top choice school has as good an ear for talent as the other two schools.
Thumbs Up
