PostSubject: Is this it?   Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:50 am

Maybe you are not interested to read this.
For me it's a big change and it really made me upset today.

In September my mom moved to a new home, a kind of nursery home for 6 ladies with alzheimer.
Pretty soon we found out mom can't get used to the new things.
She can't stay here.

This morning we visited a nursery home where they have much more people with alzheimer.
Some are in the first fase, others in the last fase.
Here has mom to live too.
It made me upset to see all those people, not knowing anymore who they are.
All they can do is sitting in a wheelchair all day.

I know mom has to live there. but my feeling tells me find an other place for her.

I'm so sorry to hear about this sister.

I know it is very tough to see someone you love so much loose their memory, I pray that you find the right place for your mother.

There may be no better place for her, Yvonne. This home sounds like they know what they are doing as they have dealt with many other patients like this before. It isn't easy to think about, but your mom needs the best care she can get through the next months or years.

There for a while, we were considering the same thing with my dad. Thankfully, he has recovered nicely and is starting to look for his own apartment. But, sometimes you have to let professionals who are able to care for your parents do their job so that you can still do yours--taking care of a family.

The house is a good place for mom I'm sure of that.
No, it's not possible to care for mom at home, she needs 24 x 7 care and we can't give her that.
She is loosing so much of her memories now and drive further away from us in her own world.

Then even though this feels strange, you have to do what is best for her and for your family. You don't have to feel guilty--especially if you go to visit her often and stay involved with her care.

I'll defintely be praying for you and for your mom. What Alldat is saying is really true, it's very clear how much you care about your mom and i really think you should take comfort in the fact that you're doing everything you can to make sure she is in good care Smile

It will be mom's last place, we don't know how much time God will give her.
God showed me yesterday mom is not alone there, God is with her.
This will be a good place for her with all the extra care she needs.

It's hard to take such a situation gracefully, but truly I say to you that you are doing the right thing. It is very difficult to keep visiting someone so close that doesn't remember who you are, but she does still have feelings. So many of those patients have nobody that comes to visit, and there are those people that make a ministry of it.

Mom will move Wednesday to her room in the new nursery home.
I'm having a lot of problems with this..

It's better for her ... but it onlys shows us how much the Alzheimer has taken from her.

She's not aware anymore of environment, what things are and so many, many more.
When she is in our house, she doesn't understand anymore that we live here.

No, I don't write this to bother you with my concerns, but it really helps to vent and to read encouraging words.

Your concern shows how good a daughter you are. I know that makes it difficult for you, but I believe God is pleased with you.

My gran had a similar situation, she was moved to a home to cope with her alzheimers. Every now and then she would recognise someone but the rest of the time she was in her own world. But it was good to see her being cared for in a home that catered for alzheimer sufferers as they knew how to care for my gran in the best way possible - which was something we as a family couldn't do as it is constant care that is required.

It is good that you can share, Yvonne
