You thought it was the Bee Gees because it essentially is. They wrote it, and at least one of them did background vocals for it. And according to wiki Barry Gibb even produced it....so just about as close as you can get.

ahhh, that makes sense. But I actually thought the ENTIRE song was the 3 men known as the BeeGees - from my early teens up until my shocking discovery today, I thought this song was the BeeGees.

when I was younger I was confused by the lyric "I'm a ladies man" because I wondered why some woman would sing that line.

I always equated this lyric with the Frankie Valli song "Walk Like A Man"...they use these falsetto vocals on the chorus that just don't sound particularly "manly".
