Have fun to figure out what the theme of August will be.

I thought that AUthors was the (early) theme for AUgust.  I mean, we already had a summer theme for July...

Let's try to stick to a theme for at least an entire month people.  Seems like there have been so many changes in the last few months I have kind of given up trying to keep pace.

Oh okay. We can have authors for August. I didn't even mean for it to be an early thing. It was just ideas. I wasn't trying to push anything.

We've changed our avatars some weeks ago into the author avatars.

What's a cool theme for August?

Maybe we have a bit more clearer when we change our avatars and what's the theme.
Sometimes it's a bit confusing what and when we change.

How about guilty pleasure album covers?

Finally got around to changing mine to an author (must mean it's time to change again...lol).

As I have no idea who most of authors you all are using I suspect most won't know who I picked either.  I went with Phillip K D i c k.  He was a science fiction writer who suffered from mental health issues.  As a result many of his main characters were also "flawed" people.  You might not have read any of his books but several of his stories were made into movies (were the movie characters were often substantially different from the written versions).  Some movies made from his books: Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, The Adjustment Bureau, Screamers, A Scanner Darkly.

I read a few of his books in college. I'll have to see if I still have any. Thanks for the reminder.

My posting of Phillip K D i c k's name reminded me of the hilarious "word censor" we have here.  If you type the word "d i c k" without the spaces it comes out with something that could be hilarious given the context.

Sadly, "was" would be more accurate.  He passed away in 2007 without completing the Wheel of Time series.  Fortunately he left very detailed notes and drafts, and equally talented Brandon Sanderson was able to use them to complete the series.

If you ever plan to read Wheel of Time, give yourself plenty of time; I am reading it for the fourth time (I think), and after a year I and am only on book number five, The Fires of Heaven. I have never completed the series, as it is so long I didn't want to try to read the last two, books number 13 and 14, without starting over so I'd remember what was going on.  These books are massive!

I don't think I would have the stamina to last that many books in a single series.  I think it was all I could do to finish original 6 books in Herbert's Dune series (a series I greatly enjoyed).  I haven't even attempted to read the other 10+ his son wrote that prequel/continue the series.
