Rate the Superman movies!

I've been rewatching the Superman movies lately.
Despite their age, a couple of them are quite entertaining even after
20 or more years. Some, I cannot believe I watched the first time. I
even liked, not loved, the new Superman Returns.

How would you rate each one? Give each one a one to a five * rating:


Superman
- Great movie! It was the first time that the Man of Steel graced the
big screen. Yes, the effects are cheesy now, but they were awesome back
in the day. I loved that they gave a lot of attention to Superman
coming to earth, being raised by the Kents, etc. They got a lot of the
Superman storyline in and really set up that history. Also, the main
villian is Lex Luthor, and he's got some really whacked ideas about
shaving off the California coastline to increase the value of his
property. Great fun!

Superman II - Christopher
Reeves again dons the cape for a second spin. The villians sent to the
Neutral Zone in the first movie make an accidental escape and follow
Superman to Earth where havoc and mayhem follow. Meanwhile, Superman is
getting romantic with Lois, and devises a plan to shed the Superman
side so that he and Lois can be together. He reveals in doing so that
he and Clark Kent are one and the same. But, to save the world and stop
the bad guys, Clark must undo his transformation and become the Man Of
Steel forever. He does so, and kicks some major bootie as usual.

Not as good as the first one, but still a great film.

Superman
III - Were they really serious here? It's like they were trying to do a
comedy or a spoof! Richard Pryor comes in this movie. A new villian,
instead of Lex Luthor, uses a computer programmer to hack everything
from weather satellites to oil barges to control the world markets. He
even finances a super computer to do this, and to defend itself against
Superman. The only good thing in this movie is the fight between the
evil Superman and Clark Kent.

Superman IV: The Quest
For Peace - Luthor returns with a diabolical plan to use one of
Superman's hairs to make a genetic bad guy called Nuclear Man (stupid
name!). During this, Superman is ridding the world of nuclear weapons.
While there is plenty of fight scenes between Superman and Nuclear Man,
the villian just looks like a reject from the Village People. Did they
run out of $$$ for costuming? While the plot is better than Superman
III, it is just hard to take this series seriously after that point.

Superman
Returns - The first Superman movie since Reeves' tragic accident.
Brandon Routh dons the tights this time around. Superman has been away
from Earth for 5 years (seems a bit longer in the movies), and returns
to find Lex Luthor at it again with a new real estate scheme. The
effects are super clear now, but you really want to see Superman tangle
with a super villian. You won't get it. Superman also finds that he has
a son by Lois Lane. Funny....there is nothing to suggest that she was
pregnant in III or IV! Also, for Superman to have been gone for 5
years, and Lois to think that her new man is the father, that she would
have had to been with both this guy and Superman at the same time.
Super slut!

I think that director Brian Singer just created his
own storyline and forgot about making a great film and settled for an
okay one.

After all is said and done, I would have rather watched the whole Superman franchise getting a restart as Batman has.

Hmm, not a huge Superman fan myself, but this is how I would rate them.

Superman 1 - Great flick, quite a treat despite the overacting by Margot Kidder.

Superman 2 - Just slightly less entertaining than the first. A pretty decent film.

Superman 3 - Yes getting kind of dumb at this point. Seemed rather forced and humorous (but not in a good way).

Superman 4 - Never saw it. Didn't even know it existed. Sounds like I am happy never to have seen it.

Supergirl - Helen Slater is cute, but she isn't all that believable as a superhero. Not even Peter O'Toole could save this disaster of a film

Superman Returns - Decent special effects, but too few and far between. Weak story, weak characters, weak plot. Heck, just plain weak. I was severly dissapointed. One of my boys fell asleep, and one other wished he had.

I am a Superman fan but never watched the movies.
What I watched were episodes on TV, Lois & Clark.

Yes with Terri Hatcher and Dean Cain.

I worked nights back when The Adventures of Lois and Clark was on TV, so I missed the whole series. I never wanted to be the kind of guy always taping stuff on the VCR and watching it later. Besides, I had to catch Star Trek: Voyager, Hercules, and Zena: Warrior Princess.

Superman 1 - Good film, but rather cheesy. I did enjoy it when I first watched it, but now I can't get passed the cheese.

Superman 2 - Not sure why, but the three villans really wound me up. It's like here's a superhero, now here's 3 villans who can do almost the same. Dunno, not really good for my film watchign eyes.

Superman 3 - I've seen this once, but can't remember much of it. I remember slightly enjoying it though!

Superman 4 - Don't think I've ever seen this, but it is possible I did back in the day, when it was first broadcast on TV.

Supergirl - Superman in a skirt. Better to look at, but a storyline that's as thin as a crisp.

I never watched Lois & Clark.
