Hey guys --

Question about Jimmy P. Brown. Just wondered if he's still a Christian, and what the lyrics are like on recent D albums?

I've read where he's studying Judaism and Kabollah... Judaism is great -- in fact, the Bible tells us that when we're in heaven, we'll be celebrating the Jewish holidays... But my understanding is that Kabollah is a corrupt form of it (made famous by Madonna and Britney Spears).

Also, on Jimmy's myspace page (not the deliverance page, but his own), under the "Movies" section, where you list your favorite movies, he says, "Does porn count?"

Please understand -- I'm not judging! I'm just curious what the lyrics are like after seeing some of this stuff...

Jimmy is out there just a little bit, but I think he is still searching. I don't mind a Christian studying Judaism or even Kaballah as long as they maintain the core beliefs to be Christ follower. I think it would be cool to be able to actually celebrate Passover in proper Jewish fashion. But, if he is mixing more than just the basic tenets of Christianity, he could be in trouble.

Jimmy is still very much a Christian. He went through a period of doubt and searching, but he still professes faith in Jesus Christ and writes Biblically centered lyrics, even if he sometimes expresses things in a way that is a bit more cryptic. IMO, he is just a bit jaded by the church, as am I frankly.

This is just my opinion, but I think he spent so much time trying to hide his struggles so he could appear to be Mr. Super Spiritual Christian, only to have the church denounce him anyways, that he decided to just be open and honest about his struggles and let whoever wants to condemn him for it do so.

Awhile back, before the release of As Above, So Below, there were all sorts of stupid rumors flying around about the content of the album that Jimmy posted a big list of "confessions", a lot of which contradicted each other and were obvious nonsense. He's just tired of other Christians judging him.

Here's a quote from the man himself:

Jimmy P Brown II wrote:
By the way since it was mentioned, while Rabbi Ahyh remains my dear Friend, I have not been part of the church of YHWH for many years now...

For what it's worth, I hope some of you get what it is I am saying through
these lyrics... There is some wonderful stuff there that I was really happy
with... But if you don't get it, I really don't care anymore... Think what you
want... In the end, this record will be smashed by fan reviews and some of you will continue vowing that "Weapons" was the absolute best...

My wife has a good friend who is a Jewish-Christian.
No reason you can't be both, just as long as you believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah.
I have studied Mormonism, but I'm certainly not going to become one.

I would never do that. For me, "Learn" was the best because so much of what Jimmy had to say on that one was SO personal for me. I had a rough year in 1990, and that song reminds me of what God carried Holly & I through. Musically, the new disc is right up there with the best, but the topics in "Learn" still speak and minister to me to this day.

Does that mean that I don't think Jimmy can top that CD? Not at all. As long as he continues pointing towards Christ, even if it is through the lens of his personal struggles, then "D" will keep speaking to me. I might not have the same struggles as he does, but we all have trouble spots. I find great comfort in knowing that everyone out there is not a super-Christian and that we all are just saved by grace--not anything we can ever do.

Keep the goods coming, Jimmy. Take your time and make the music from your heart--not what the record companies or the fans demand.

Thanks, guys! Again, I was not judging -- just curious where he was coming from on recent albums. TT, that info was especially helpful!

Long live D!

I didn't think it sounded as if you were judging.

As Above So Below was more bold than River Disturbance IMHO, FWIW.

I agree. Offhand, I can't think of any rumor mongers here, but there are a few people who will apparently believe about anything about Jimmy, no matter how off the wall, so I just wanted to nip it in the bud. Some of the rumors about As Above So Below before it came out were really bizzare.

I think I know who the big rumor spreader was at that time!

I totally agree, staybrite. Rumours quite often lead to problems.
